It is Now Or Never for the Jets and Seahawks
Will Geno End His Former Team’s Playoff Hopes?
No Hollywood writer would have dared to come up with the current scenario as former New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith has a chance to end New York’s playoff hopes with a win on Sunday. About the only thing missing is the game being held in New Jersey rather than Seattle.
It is pretty much a win or wait until next year for both teams.
With Buffalo, Kansas City, Cincinnati, Baltimore and the Los Angeles Chargers already clinched playoff spots and either Jacksonville or Tennessee joining the postseason party as AFC South champions, the Jets are one of six teams fighting it out for the final playoff berth.
Winning the final two games won’t guarantee the Jets a spot in the postseason, but a loss would pretty end their chances.
There are still two unclaimed playoff slots in the NFC with Philadelphia, Minnesota, San Francisco, Dallas and the winner of the NFC South in the postseason. Seattle is ½ a game behind
Washington is one of four NFC teams with a 7-8 record so this is pretty much a must-win for Seattle as well.
In a year when so many key players have been sidelined, Seattle put tight end Will Dissly on injured reserve. Keep an eye on the status of Seattle rookie running back Kenneth Walker as he is questionable for the game. He is coming off a 100-yard game in a loss to Kansas City.

Per the NFL playoff odds, The Seahawks (+10000) are tied for 10th in the odds to winning the NFC championship while the Jets (+20000) are 10th in the odds to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl.

Jets Hope White is Right
Mike White will be back at quarterback for the New York Jets.
White has the highest passer rating among the four quarterbacks who have played for the Jets this season. He has completed 62% of his passes for 952 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions in three games. White missed the last two games with injured ribs but he is cleared to return in the biggest game of the season for the Jets.
New York already has three offensive linemen on injured reserve and now tackles Duane Brown and George Fant are questionable.
The Jets have covered against the Las Vegas odds in just two of their last six games.
Remember Me?
What a turn of events it would be for Smith, who spent four seasons with the Jets after being a second-round pick in the 2013 NFL draft, if he becomes the quarterback who helps eliminate the Jets from playoff contention.
Smith was one of the stories in the first half of the NFL season as he stepped in following the trade of Russell Wilson to Denver.
Smith had back-to-back 300-yard passing games to help Seattle get off to a 6-3 start.
Things have gotten a little turbulent recently with the Seahawks dropping five of their last six games. Smith has five interceptions during that stretch.
There is a chance star receiver Tyler Lockett could be back after missing last week’s game.
Seattle has failed to cover against the NFL betting lines in each of its last six games.

The last time the teams played, Seattle won 40-3 on Dec. 13, 2020, as DK Metcalf caught a touchdown pass and the defense held the Jets to 185 yards.
Each of the last six meetings has been decided by at least 10 points with four of those games finishing under the total.
Seattle has won the last three home games with the last road win for the Jets in the series coming in 1997.

Jets vs Seahawks Picks & Prediction
Predicted Score: Seattle 24, Giants 17
- Worth Betting on the Moneyline?
There isn’t going to be much of a payoff with the Jets priced at -125 to win the game and the Seahawks coming in at +105. This is looking like a toss up between teams in dire need of a victory.
There are injury issues on both sides that could result in the shift of the Moneylines so keep close tabs on the practice updates.
- Worth Betting ATS?
The line opened with Seattle favored by 1½ points but once news broke that the Jets would have White at quarterback, the Jets became the slight favorite.
If Walker, Lockett and offensive tackle Abraham Lucas are all cleared to play, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the game become a pick’em or perhaps Seattle even become a slight favorite.
The Jets and Seahawks are both 1-5 in their last six games so it is simply a case of trying your gut when it comes to which team comes up with the victory on Sunday.
- Worth Betting on the Totals?
Going with the under seems to be the most popular bet in this game.
The total opened at 44 but with so much money coming in on the under, it has moved to 42.5. Seattle has scored 23 points in its last two games while the Jets have 32 points in the last three.
