The 49ers are 4-0 in games Purdy has finished and 3-0 in games Purdy has started. It’s an amazing development in a league where a lot of teams don’t even have a good No. 2 quarterback.
This week, the Niners get an opponent that’s also switching to their backup but if you’re making your NFL picks, note that this situation is quite different. The Raiders just benched their leader, a heart-and-soul player, and are giving a start to a player who has never had one.
He’s also being thrown into the fire against the top defense in the NFL. Like many other Raider decisions, this might not work out well.
Carr’s Future Is Uncertain
The Derek Carr era with the Raiders could be down to its final two games. The Raiders scored a touchdown on their opening drive against the Pittsburgh Steelers and then didn’t score another touchdown for the rest of the game.
Carr threw three interceptions and now leads the league in the stat, which is among the reasons for the team’s coaching staff to make the change.
This week, the team will lean on running back Josh Jacobs, who leads the NFL in rushing. But how will Davante Adams respond? The team’s top wideout came over to Las Vegas to play with Carr, but now his close friend is benched.
How will the rest of the team react if many blame the coaching staff – and not Carr – for the team’s shortcomings? This could go badly for the Raiders.
