Teams in unlikely situations will battle it out in an unlikely venue on Sunday. The Seattle Seahawks (6-3) and Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-5) head to Munich as the NFL expands its reach into Europe. The effects of such traveling are hard to predict, but they will be the same for both teams.
The Buccaneers are the definition of underperforming and are fighting to get back to .500 in a season they were expected to make a playoff run. Meanwhile, the Seahawks are leading the division they were expected to finish last in.
If there were a comeback team of the year award, the Seattle Seahawks would be frontrunners. Nobody expected Geno Smith’s first season under center during a half-rebuild would go well. Not only is it going well, but the Seahawks are on a four-game tear and lead the NFC West.
Entering Week 10, the Seahawks rank 11th in yards per game on offense (359.8) and fourth in points (26.8 PPG). With an average of three touchdowns scored per game, the Seahawks show no signs of slowing up.
Seattle’s defense, however, needs to pick it up if they hope to compete during a playoff run. The Seahawks struggle particularly with running the defense and allow the 5th most yards on the ground per game (138.7). Good thing the Bucs have arguably the worst rushing attack in the NFL.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
What a terrible season it has been so far for Tom Brady and the Buccaneers. They were championship contenders in the preseason, but after nine weeks, it’s possible Tampa Bay doesn’t even make the playoffs.
Surprisingly, the offense completely collapsed and is proving incapable of getting back on track. The Bucs rank 25th in scoring with a measly 18 PPG and have hands-down the worst rushing game in the NFL. They rank 32nd in every significant rushing metric except for TDs, where they are 30th.
So, it makes sense that the Buccaneers are 2.5 favorites in this game, right? Technically they are the home team, but obviously, that is meaningless in Germany. Can the books not accept that Brady and the Bucs may just be that bad?
