Buccaneers Looking To Throttle Cleveland
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers look for their third consecutive win when they visit the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. Cleveland is on the opposite end of the spectrum, dropping two straight. Tampa Bay (5-5) hopes to pull away in the NFC South, and the Browns (3-7) are spiraling out of control thanks to a struggling defense.
Neither team has been a bettors’ best friend, as the Bucs are 3-6-1 against the spread (ATS) while Cleveland is 4-6.

Tampa Bay Focusing on the Run
Coming off of back-to-back wins, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers seem to finally be on track. For a period of time, making the playoffs was a question mark for the Tom Brady-led squad. The Buccaneers were dominated in the run game on both sides of the ball during their 1-5 stretch from Week 3 to Week 8. Tampa Bay’s 21-16 win over the Seattle Seahawks was encouraging, but betting on its +1800 Super Bowl odds is still too risky.
Since Week 9, Tampa Bay is allowing 14.5 points per game and opponents are averaging only 2.8 yards per carry. Linebacker play has improved as Devin White comes off nine tackles and two sacks. This comes at the perfect time with the Cleveland Browns attempting 31.6 runs per game (fifth) and averaging 150.9 rushing yards (fifth). The Buccaneers hope for another dominant defensive showing, leading to the under for the third straight game.
On offense, Tampa Bay finally found success on the ground in its previous game. The Bucs totaled 161 rushing yards led by rookie running back Rachaad White’s 4.8 yards per carry. Running back Leonard Fournette is questionable with a hip injury, but White’s emergence eases the potential loss.

Sliding Browns Defense
After smashing the Cincinnati Bengals 32-13 in Week 8, the Cleveland Browns were 3-5 and eyeing the playoffs. Over the last two games, the Browns are 0-2 ATS and have allowed 35 points per game, a 73.3% completion percentage and 5.6 yards per carry.
Of course, the Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills feature some of the NFL’s best offenses, but it was still a massive disappointment after holding the Bengals to 13 points. Cleveland has no chance to gather itself as Brady comes to town. Plus, starting cornerback Greg Newsome is questionable with a concussion.
The Browns’ playoff hopes are surely over, as the sportsbook gives them +850 odds to make the postseason. Quarterback Deshaun Watson returns in Week 13, but he will not be perfect and Cleveland has no room for error. To pull off a surprise win over the Buccaneers, the Browns must win the run game.
Running back Nick Chubb averaged a season-low 1.4 yards per carry in the previous game. He has not reached 70 rushing yards in back-to-back games. Starting center Ethan Pocic will be out for several weeks with a knee injury, adding to the run game’s concerns.

Buccaneers vs Browns Head-to-Head
The Buccaneers are 4-1 and 3-1 ATS over their last four meeting with the Browns. Also, Tampa has won and covered its last two trips to Cleveland.
However, these matchups were before Brady joined the Bucs in 2020. Fun fact: Brady’s last trip to Cleveland was in 2016 when he returned from his four-game Deflategate suspension. Brady dominated the Browns with over 400 passing yards and three touchdowns.

Buccaneers vs Browns Picks & Prediction
Predicted Score: Buccaneers 27, Browns 17
- Worth Betting on the Moneyline?
Despite Tampa’s turnaround in the last two games, the Buccaneers are not big favorites. The Bucs’ moneyline is priced at -175, which provides some room for profit. Take Tampa Bay to win outright against the Browns.
Cleveland is reliant on the run, and the Buccaneers’ linebacker play has drastically improved in the last two. Also, Tampa Bay comes off its best rushing performance and the Browns rank 28th in allowed yards per carry. Like last game, the Bucs will win by controlling the ground.
- Worth Betting ATS?
Taking the Buccaneers to cover 3½ points is too tempting to pass up. Tampa Bay has snapped its brutal six-game losing streak ATS after going 1-1 over the last two. Meanwhile, the Browns are 1-2 ATS in their last three home games.
- Worth Betting on the Totals?
This one is a bit tricky. Tampa Bay has gone under in five of the last six, but Cleveland has gone over 7 of 10 games. I like the over due to the Browns’ defensive struggles. This could be the game where Tampa’s offense looks all the way back. However, I’m avoiding this total due to the weather and the Buccaneers’ improved defense.
- Tempting Props?
Go heavy on Bucs running back White. He is becoming Tampa Bay’s top back and comes off a breakout performance. Plus, Fournette’s status is questionable and Cleveland is 23rd in run defense. White has one rushing touchdown, but he is due for more after 22 carries in the previous game. The Browns are 30th in allowed rushing touchdowns per game.
