AFC South Mock Draft
It’s not often that you run into a division where three out of the four teams in it will be heading into the draft all looking for their potential new franchise QB. And then there’s the AFC South entering the 2023 NFL draft.
So what should fans expect out of each AFC South squad as we enter this year’s NFL draft season?
You Get a QB, and You Get A QB, and You Get A QB!
With the Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts, and Tennessee Titans all looking to find answers to their QB conundrums, be it through the NFL draft most likely, or this season’s free agency market, it must feel pretty good to be the Jacksonville Jaguars right about now.
After a season in which all three teams struggled greatly to find any kind of balance in their passing game, the time for starting over has come. With the squads holding the 2nd, 4th, and 11th pick respectively, being able to snag up one of the top QB prospects in this year’s NFL draft class is a matter of the utmost importance.
Looking Good Jacksonville
Over on the brighter side of the AFC South division, the panorama could not look any brighter for the Jacksonville Jaguars. After a stellar first season under the tutelage of head coach Doug Pederson, the Jaguars have gone from being a perennial joke in the league to becoming contenders and a true threat in the upcoming 2023 season.
With a new season approaching, starting with the NFL draft, all signs point towards Jacksonville once again stating a strong claim for the divisional title. But with all other three teams in the AFC South looking to start over and cause an immediate splash with new QBs and reinforced rosters, who will win the race at the end of the season?
Indianapolis Colts Mock Draft
The Indianapolis Colts are here, and they are ready to flip their script upside down in 2023. After a grueling 2022 season which saw them amount to four wins,12 losses, and a tie, the Colts are more than ready to kickstart a whole new era of football in Indy, one that hopefully includes a change in culture that can drive the team to win once again.
Standing atop the list of priorities in the upcoming NFL draft for the Colts is finding a new franchise QB. With new HC Shane Steichen ready to flip the script completely in Indy, finding a new passer that can offer sustainable guarantees for the foreseeable future is a must.
Besides that, in Indy’s draft shopping list, finding strong prospects to help buff up its offensive line, as well as adding at least one strong wide receiver, and a tight end takes center stage on the offensive side of the ball.
On defense, it seems as if focusing their draft efforts on landing a strong edge rusher as well as some much-needed help for its secondary through a rookie cornerback will be the most important issues the Colts will be looking to address.
Houston Texans Mock Draft
After having a 2022 season that saw the Texans hold the No.1 position in the 2023 NFL draft, right up into the last week of the regular season, where they let it go to the Bears after losing to Indy, the Texans are ready to make this upcoming draft their biggest in history.
With a total of 12 picks in this season’s upcoming NFL draft, the chances to build up a game-changing rookie class that could start to secure their immediate future in the division are ripe for the taking.
As of right now, Houston is the kind of team that could benefit from adding some much necessary depth to almost all positions within their roster. Starting at their most important position, QB, the Texans will be looking to score big with the draft’s 2nd overall pick. Given that this year’s draft is once again loaded with some elite QB prospects, Houston’s passing game problems could finally find a solution.
After striking gold last season by selecting players like Jalen Pitre, Dameon Pierce, and Derek Stingley Jr. it will be up to Houston’s management and coach Ryans to make the most out of their capital as they try to rebuild a team in dire need of a fresh start.
Jacksonville Jaguars Mock Draft
Show us the Jacksonville Jaguars and we’ll show you what football’s example of “from rags to riches” looks like. After being the tail end of almost every joke in the league for the past few years, last season the Jaguars, led by coach Doug Pederson and a renewed Trevor Lawrence seemed to have found their groove and are now ready to start shutting haters up left and right.
Entering the 2023 draft, two main positions seem to be in Jacksonville’s best interest, both on offense and defense. Offensively, the Jaguars will be targeting their initial strategy around finding a strong prospect at tight end, all while keeping an eye on scoring at least one strong wide receiver and finding some help for their offensive line.
On the defensive side of the ball, scoring a top-tiered cornerback, probably in the 2nd or 3rd round of the draft will be right up there in Jacksonville’s list of priorities, while landing a strong pass rusher to further deepen their roster will also be a priority for the team.
Tennessee Titans Mock Draft
With a total of six picks, and a strong need to find a new QB for the foreseeable future, especially with veteran passer Ryan Tannehill looking more than ready to leave Tennessee, the Titans will be looking to score big in the 2023 NFL draft.
With its QB situation still up in the air, while picking a rookie passer will take center stage if the team decides to go down a new road without Tannehill, finding strong options at offensive tackle, as well as wide receiver, also hold an apparent level of important for Tennessee.
It’s a given that the Titans will have their draft strategy revolve around the offensive side of the ball, which means that Tennessee fans should expect big moves, especially to strengthen the team’s receiver core come draft time.
Over on the defense, the Titans will be looking to address a need to create more depth in their cornerback and edge rusher positions.
