2022 NFL Preview: Buffalo Bills

Buffalo Bills Odds

  • To win AFC East -250
  • To win AFC +325
  • To win Super Bowl +600
  • To make playoffs Yes -550/ No +375

Bills Offense

Expect to see more of Allen connecting with Stefon Diggs. Receivers Cole Beasley and Emmanuel Sanders are gone but Jamison Crowder was brought in. Gabriel Davis could be in line for a larger workload. Offseason acquisition O.J. Howard was released on Tuesday so tight end Dawson Knox should remain a key part of the passing offense. The Bills brought in Rodger Saffold to bolster the offensive line.

Buffalo certainly has plenty of options at running back with rookie James Cook joining holdovers Devin Singletary and Zack Moss.

This should be one of the better offenses in the NFL after finishing fifth in the NFL in total offense in 2021.

Player to Watch: QB Josh Allen

Bills Defense

Buffalo led the NFL in total defense last season, allowing just 272.8 yards per game. Could the 2022 defense be even better? Buffalo brought in two-time Super Bowl champion and former Super Bowl MVP Miller to improve any already talented unit. First-round pick Kaiir Elam should help the Bills’ pass defense.

Buffalo has been building the defense through the draft with the additions of linebacker and leading tackler Tremaine Edmunds, defensive end Gregory Rousseau, defensive lineman Ed Oliver, and cornerback Tre’Davious White. White is currently sidelined so that is a concern.

Buffalo will miss run-stuffing defensive lineman Harrison Phillips while Elam will replace the departed Levi Wallace at cornerback. Look for Rousseau to make a jump as a pass rusher, and with the attention that Miller is sure to draw, he could have even more opportunities to shine. Edmunds is one of the best-kept secrets in the NFL and that could soon be changing.

Player to Watch: LB Tremaine Edmunds

Bills Team Strength

Where do we start? There are plenty of reasons why the Bills enter the season as the favorites to win the Super Bowl.

Allen threw for 4,407 yards with 36 touchdowns and was Buffalo’s second-leading rusher as well. When mentioning the best quarterbacks in the NFL, it doesn’t take long to mention Allen’s name. The NFL predictions has Allen tied for seventh at +2000 in the NFL Offensive Player of the Year odds.

With Mitch Trubisky heading to Pittsburgh, veterans Matt Barkley and Case Keenum are the other quarterbacks on the roster. Both of them know how to win in the NFL so there is solid depth at the position.

Bills Team Weakness

Edmunds is a playmaker but do the Bills have enough players around him at the linebacker position? Matt Milano is a solid player and certainly bringing in a player like Miller helps to address the need for more impact players at linebacker. A lack of depth at the position is a concern.

Bills Forecast

The Bills weren’t able to seal the deal during the Jim Kelly era as Buffalo made history by reaching and losing in the Super Bowl in four consecutive seasons. There’s no reason to believe that Buffalo won’t make a run at the Super Bowl in 2022.

There are some injuries to deal with in the secondary at the beginning of the season, but those are not long-term issues.

Something to consider for those who bet online: Playing four playoff teams on the road, including the defending Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams, should help toughen this team up for the playoffs.
