In the first four games of the 2024 NFL season, Detroit has been adamant about making sure NFL betting odds fans know that last year was no fluke. Instead, rocking a 3-1 record, falling only to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 2, but beating the Los Angeles Rams, Arizona Cardinals, and Seattle Seahawks along the way, the Lions are constantly atop all power ranking lists amongst the five best teams in the league.

With the team entering its bye week in Week 5, what better time than to recap what’s happened so far for Campbell’s team and talk about what’s to come for the Lions as the season progresses?

What’s Next for the Title-Hungry Lions in 2024?

The Offense Is a Juggernaut and It’s Time for the Defense to Play at the Same Level

Hi, my name is Daniel Sáenz; you may know me as one of BetUS Sportsbook’s sports writers and resident New York Jets fan, but it just so happens I’m also a big Lions fan, especially its offense.

This season specifically, the Lions can flat-out brag about how the team’s attack has evolved into one of the best units in the league. With quarterback Jared Goff leading the way, playing at an early MVP level, and a crop of weapons like Amon-Ra St. Brown, David Montgomery, Jahmyr Gibbs, Jameson Williams, Sam LaPorta, Brock Wright, and Tim Patrick, it’s no wonder why they are the fourth best total offense in the league.

Ask any NFL prop betting fan on their weekly picks thus far this season, and they’ll probably tell you they’ve been rocking with at least one Detroit offensive prop every weekend.

While their wins against the Rams in week 1 and Cardinals in week 3 worked as strong testaments of this team’s offensive firepower, last week’s 42-29 home victory over the Seahawks truly put a whole new spotlight on Detroit’s attack.

With a perfect 18-for-18 pass performance, 292 yards, two passing TDs, and even a receiving TD from a trick play that saw St. Brown hit Goff for a seven-yard TD, alongside a two-rushing TD performance from Gibbs, another rushing score from Montgomery, and receiving touchdowns from Williams and St. Brown, Detroit put the league on notice of what it can do offensively.

On the flip side, though, the Lions still need to up the ante on defense if they wish to truly succeed as the team to beat in the NFC, especially in its secondary.

Leading the league in defensive pass interference calls is not something any secondary would like to brag about. With rookie cornerback Terrion Arnold still not wholly established as the team’s top corner, improvements must be made.

Lions Need to Push the Pedal to the Metal After Bye Week

Right after the Lions return from their bye, a visit to the Dallas Cowboys, a team that, even while struggling, is always a threat, will be waiting. With all of their NFC North rivalry games still left on the schedule and a visit to the Houston Texans, Buffalo Bills, and Houston Texans amongst the most important games left, the road to the playoffs looks steep yet manageable for Dan Campbell’s bunch.

With the team’s odds to make the NFL playoffs at -300, it’s clear that oddsmakers believe this is a team that wasn’t a one-and-done deal from last season. For now, all it will take is for Detroit to iron out its defensive flaws and continue dominating on offense. Then, it will be a walk in the park to repeat as divisional champions and make it into the playoffs as one of the conference’s top seeds.

But what about Minnesota? They’re the hottest team in the league right now and undefeated. Yes, but if push comes to shove, would you rather risk your hard-earned online betting money on a team led by Sam Darnold or one led by Goff?

I know the answer. You know the answer. Even Darnold knows the answer, so yes, Detroit is where it’s at.

If Goff can continue playing at the level he is, and Aidan Hutchinson, the team’s primary weapon on defense, carries on en route to winning the Defensive Player of the Year Award, with our NFL future odds showing him as the favorite at +250, again, walk in the park.

In closing, do I think the Lions have what it takes this season to get over the NFC Championship game hump and make it to the Super Bowl? Their +550 odds to win the NFC title entice me, but above all, Campbell’s leadership and the roster’s talent make me a true believer after the first four games of the season.
