2024 NFL Schedule: Early Wins for Texans, Cowboys & Bengals?

We know with the NFL Week 1 betting lines dropping that the 2024 season is around the corner, and there are plenty of teams that should be sending complaint letters to the league office after getting unfortunate draws with the NFL schedule.

Yet, there are also some franchises that will have some time to find their footing early in the season thanks to a less-than-challenging start to the schedule. The Houston Texans will no longer be flying under the radar after C.J. Stroud’s debut season.

The defending AFC South champs may have a target on their back this season, but it looks like the franchise may have some time to ease into 2024.

The Dallas Cowboys have had plenty of drama this offseason, but their lack of roster moves may not catch up to Jerry Jones until later in the schedule. We all know it is the January games, not September, that seem to have the Cowboys’ number.

Finally, Joe Burrow has a soft landing as he returns from a season-ending wrist injury. Like Houston and Dallas, the Cincinnati Bengals are poised to get off to a fast start.

Here’s a look at why fans can expect the Texans, Cowboys, and Bengals to love September.

C.J. Stroud Poised to Lead Texans to Fast Start

It is worth mentioning that no NFL game is easy, but some schedules appear to be a bit easier than others, at least on paper. That said, Houston has a chance to be favored in six of their first seven games.

The Texans could be facing quarterbacks with little to no experience for the first three weeks. Houston faces the Colts, Bears, and Vikings to begin the season.

After that, the Texans square off against the Jaguars, Bills, and Patriots. If Houston can split the Jacksonville and Buffalo games, the Texans have a chance to begin the season at 5-1.

Cowboys Can Overcome Underwhelming Offseason

Jerry Jones has had his phone on “Do Not Disturb” mode for the entire offseason. To make matters worse, the Cowboys have yet to sign Dak Prescott to a contract extension.

Dallas could lose Prescott for nothing in 2025 thanks to a no-franchise tag clause. CeeDee Lamb and Micah Parsons are also do for extensions in the coming years.

Yet, we will let the future worry about these issues as Dallas has a favorable start to the season. The Cowboys will likely be favored in four of their first five matchups. Dallas opens the season against the Browns, Saints, Ravens, Giants, and Steelers.

The Baltimore matchup could be the biggest threat. It would be a surprise if the Cowboys were not favored in all the other matchups. Who knows what’s happening in the mind of Jones, but here is the Cowboys owner hinting that the team can still make trades.

“I’ve seen teams win the Super Bowl with running backs that they traded for midseason,” Jones noted during an April 27 press conference after the draft. “So, the point is that this thing’s a long way from being over as to how you’re going to line up against X next fall.”

Can Joe Burrow Bounce Back After a Season-Ending Wrist Injury?

Last season did not go as planned in Cincinnati. Namely, the Bengals franchise quarterback sustained a season-ending injury in November.

Burrow could be poised to bounce back in a major way this season. The Bengals face the Patriots, Chiefs, Commanders, and Panthers.

Facing Kansas City will obviously be challenging, but Cincy could start the season 3-1 even if they stumble against the champs. Burrow sounds like someone ready to prove people wrong.

“I’m excited about the challenge that we have,” Burrow said in March, per ESPN. “I’m excited about the challenge that I have coming back from injury.

“When you’re injured, your only rebuttal to the narrative is what you put on the field and how you produce, and when you’re injured, there’s no dialogue between the narrative and yourself. So I’m excited to kind of handle that in my own way and get back out there in a much better place”.

Our NFL odds have set the Bengals win total over/under at 10½. Riding with the over would be a nod towards a bounce-back season for Burrow.
