After Getting Released by Jets: What’s Next for Davante Adams?

Following News of the Jets Releasing Davante Adams, What’s Next for the Star Receiver?

And Just Like That, Adams Is No Longer a Jet

If you can count, don’t count on Davante Adams returning to the New York Jets next season. Following early talks of the team opening up potential trade talks for the former six-time Pro Bowl wide receiver, it’s been made official by NFL news sites that Adams will not be suiting up for the Jets next season.

What was first taken as a desperate win-now move, striking a deal with the Raiders to pair Adams up with fellow Jet Aaron Rodgers, made sense and gave New York fans something to believe in.

Lo and behold, having lost 12 NFL games in total last season and leaving Jets fans with even more trust issues than ever, it’s safe to say two things. First, it was only a matter of time before the team got rid of Rodgers. And two? Adams staying would have made no sense moving forward.

Just like with Randall Cobb and Allen Lazard (Cobb unofficially retired from the league, and Lazard is being rumored as next in line on New York’s chopping block), the Green Bay Packers reunion tour at MetLife did not work.

So what’s next for Davante? Could another reunion with Rodgers happen next season?

Is There a Market for Davante?

Following the news that New York had released Adams, NFL rumors started popping up everywhere about potential landing spots for the veteran receiver, focusing on Davante’s desire to head west.

Before looking at potential landing spots, though, let’s look at what teams willing to bring Adams in would get, and why, even at 32, an age that’s apparently already being deemed too old for some experts.

Raking in 1,063 receiving yards and eight touchdowns between LV and NY, Adams put up his fifth straight 1,000+ yard season. For a player looking for a new opportunity in the league, Adams is the perfect veteran for any team looking for an immediate impact kind of player, especially considering the numbers he’s put up all while playing with Derek Carr and Rodgers.

In short, after being put through the wringer, Adams deserves to once again play in an offense led by a quarterback who can offer the reassurance he deserves. Also, Adams deserves to be on a team that other squads fear when finding them on their NFL schedule.

Any team looking to take a step up as NFL picks and predictions contenders next season would be lucky to snag up Davante. It’s as simple as that.

Could a Reunion With Rodgers Happen Next Season?

In a world where the phrase “never say never” is often thrown around, is there enough gas in the hypothetical tank to believe a Rodgers/Adams reunion elsewhere is possible?

Looking at it from an “Amigas, Cheetahs, Friends For Life” perspective (yes, I can also quote Disney movies in a second), of course, it would make sense. If a QB/WR duo knows each other like the back of their hands, it’s them.

But from a more realistic perspective, I can’t say I’m a fan of a reunion happening. It didn’t work in New York. What guarantees it would work out elsewhere, especially with Rodgers closer to retirement than a career rebuild?

If Adams wants a genuine chance to win a title once again, the best option is to avoid another reunion tour with Rodgers.

The market for a player like Rodgers is not riddled with potential betting odds of title contenders, and Adams’ camp should consider this before rekindling the bromance in another franchise.

Considering there shouldn’t be a shortage of teams potentially looking at Adams as a grade-A addition to their receiver corps, Davante should not rule out any options. Especially one that not many people are talking about right now, but should definitely be on everybody’s radar: a reunion with the Packers.

An Adams/Packers reunion would automatically put Green Bay right into the early Super Bowl LX odds conversation, and in a way, would make perfect romantic sense, because at the end of the day, who doesn’t love a good comeback story?
