The Miami Dolphins try to snap a five-game losing streak when they play host to the Atlanta Falcons for a Week 7 contest on Sunday. Miami played in London last weekend, falling to the previously winless Jacksonville Jaguars, while the Falcons are coming off a bye following a London win over the New York Jets. We’ll take a closer look at the NFL odds and try to help you make your pics for when you bet online on this contest.
|Game: Atlanta Falcons (2-3) at Miami Dolphins (1-5)
Location: Hard Rock Stadium. Date/Time: Sunday, 1 p.m. ET
The Dolphins have dominated the overall series, winning nine of 13 matchups, including the last two. The last time these two squared off was in 2017, with Miami winning 20-17 on the road.
Playing at home against the Falcons, the Dolphins are 5-2 all-time, including a 27-23 win in 2013.
Next game: vs. Carolina
Matt Ryan passed for 342 yards and two touchdowns as the Falcons jumped out quickly and held on for a 27-20 victory over the New York Jets in London on Oct. 10. Ryan had both of his scoring strikes in the first half as Atlanta jumped out to a 20-3 halftime lead.
The Jets rallied back to within three with 6:55 to play, but Mike Davis scored on a three-yard run to cap a 75-yard drive as the Falcons upped the lead back to 10 with just over two minutes to play. Rookie tight end Kyle Pitts had the best game of his young career, finishing with nine catches for 119 yards and a touchdown.
The Falcons improved to 2-3 against the spread, covering the three points they were favored by.
Wide receiver Calvin Ridley missed the game vs the Jets but is back with the team heading into this contest. Ridley was out for personal reasons for the trip to London.
Next game: at Buffalo
The Dolphins got starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa back against Jacksonville, but it wasn’t enough as they dropped a 23-20 affair to the Jaguars on a last-second field goal. Tagovailoa finished with 329 passing yards and two touchdowns, including a fourth-quarter hookup with Jaylen Waddle to give Miami a 20-17 lead.
The game was back and forth, with the Dolphins taking a 13-3 lead late in the second quarter, only to have Jacksonville rally for a 17-13 lead heading to the fourth. Waddle finished with 10 catches for 70 yards and two scores while Mike Gesicki had eight receptions for 115 yards in the loss.
Miami dropped to 2-4 against the spread, losing outright in a game that it was favored by 1½ points.
Betting on the Game
The Falcons have been playing much better after starting 0-2, winning two of their last three, with the one loss being by just four points. Atlanta has a potent offense that should be better with Ridley back in the fold.
Tagovailoa makes the Dolphins’ offense better, but with a running game that averages just 71.5 yards per game, Miami is too one-dimensional. Tagovailoa needs to be nimble and accurate for the Dolphins to have a chance, and that might be difficult with possible thunderstorms predicted for Sunday.
The over/under for this one seems a bit high for two teams that have trouble running the ball. Look for a tight battle, and take the Falcons to win when making your NFL picks on this one.
