Baker Mayfield Sues Father’s Company for $12M Over Alleged Breach of Contract

Baker’s Winning on the Field, Losing at the Bank

If you’ve ever thought dealing with relatives on Thanksgiving is one of the most tedious parts of the holiday, put yourself in Baker Mayfield’s shoes for a second. Let me paint a picture here.

Different NFL news outlets have reported that Mayfield and his wife, Emily, are heading to court in Texas to sue a company group linked to James and Matt Mayfield, Baker’s father and brother, for illegally “funneling” over $12 million from Baker’s estate.

Yes, I said $12 million. It wasn’t like Baker’s old man, and brother found a couple hundred bucks on a table and snatched it to go out for a beer run.

No.

Much-Needed Context

Camwood Capital Management Group, of which James and Matt are members, and other related enterprises, unauthorizedly moved the money sum mentioned above from 2018 to 2021 from Baker’s and his wife’s personal bank accounts and Team BRM LLC, their limited liability company.

Apparently, while Baker was trying to find his way in the league, leading the Cleveland Browns through four seasons of NFL games, he was being blindsided by his peeps.

Sure, now the passer is thriving, especially after signing a $100-million contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this offseason. If you look up Baker Mayfield’s stats, you’ll find that he is currently third in the league in touchdown passes with 24, making a solid case for potentially earning a Pro Bowl games invitation in 2025.

He’s turned the Bucs into serious betting odds contenders for a spot in the playoffs, with performances like this past weekend’s where he thrashed the Giants, even trolling New York fans with Tommy Devito’s celebration.

So why would his dad and brother play him so dirty? Not cool Mayfield’s, not cool at all.

Talk About Interesting Dinner Talk on Thanksgiving

There’s a saying that states: “Money has the power to turn a loving family into a court of law.” In Mayfield’s case, it sounds like it’s about time Baker and Emily get Judge Judy on speed dial, just in case.

After reaching an initial settlement early in January, which stated the defendants had to pay $11.7 million plus interests, following a payment schedule initially set to begin on September 30, guess what? Baker got no money paid back, leading to the present legal issues.

Even considering Baker’s and Tampa Bay’s NFL schedule is about to enter its most important phase, with the Bucs in an all-out battle with the Atlanta Falcons for the NFC South title, Mayfield is not stopping from going after his father and brother to get his hard-earned money back.

While NFL picks are still too up in the air to take sides between the Bucs and Falcons as to who will win the NFC South, if I have to put a couple of bucks down right now on anything, it’s that Baker will end up getting his and then some. Oh, and that Thanksgiving dinner talk at the Mayfields is going to be a bitch.
