Bears Get Easy Ride in 2024: Are They a Good Bet for a Playoff Run?

The Chicago Bears are set at a -125 betting line to make the NFL playoffs, and it’s in large part due to their strength of schedule. Odds have shortened for the NFC North hopeful, which contends with the Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers, and Minnesota Vikings.

Let’s take a look at what the 2024-25 season will look like for the Bears and how a soft schedule will help them make the postseason.

No Division Rivals Until Week 11

The Bears play 10 games in the first 11 weeks, including a bye, against non-division teams, which could help them establish a winning record. They’re not guaranteed to have better results against non-NFC North teams, but I believe their strength of schedule over the first 11 weeks is one of the easiest in the NFL.

They start their season against the Tennessee Titans, who were anything but good last year, before taking on the Houston Texans in Houston.

That will be a tough game, but it will give them a good indication of how their season could go. Houston is also a young team with a young quarterback, and the Bears defense could pick C.J. Stroud apart.

Games against the Colts, Rams, Panthers, and Jaguars follow before their bye in Week 7. Beating the Panthers is a given for most teams, and we don’t expect Carolina to give much of a fight in 2024.

They should also fancy their chances of beating the Jaguars in London, and they get some rest with the bye following that game.

Bears coach Matt Eberflus believes the players need to improve year-to-year.

The roster has changed significantly. The players that we’ve drafted, we’ve drafted well, and we’ve developed players through time on task, through experience and exposure,” Eberflus said.

You can name a bunch of guys that have had that and are really raising their game, and they have to do that again. Players that are in their second year have to be better in their third, and so forth and so on.

Tough Closing Stretch, But Bears a Solid Bet

Division games are littered over the final eight weeks, with only two games –against the 49ers and Seahawks– coming against non-division teams.

It won’t be easy to beat the Packers, Vikings, and Lions. Playing against each of them twice over the eight-week stretch.

The division will be decided in the second half of the year, but it gives the Bears enough time to find their identity. Caleb Williams comes up against some of the more dynamic quarterbacks in the NFL, including Jordan Love and Jared Goff.

The Bears’ best chances of securing wins come against the Vikings, who could have Sam Darnold starting the year. However, who knows if Darnold will still be the primary QB come Week 12.

The Bears’ record could fluctuate wildly during this period, so they need to hold their own and beat their rivals to have a chance of making the playoffs.

All in all, the Bears have a favorable schedule, and at -125 betting odds, they’re a solid pick to make the postseason.
