Beginner’s Guide to Super Bowl 59 Betting, January 2025

The Super Bowl 59 matchup is set as the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs meet for the NFL title for the second time in the last three seasons.

When the season began, Kansas City was the betting favorite at +350 to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl for the fifth time in the last six seasons. The Eagles trailed only the San Francisco 49ers (ouch) and the Detroit Lions at +900 to win the NFC championship according to the sports betting odds.

Those who jumped all over the +3000 odds for the Chiefs and the Eagles to meet in the Super Bowl at the start of the season are feeling pretty good right now.

Don’t worry. For those of you who didn’t go that way, there will be plenty of betting options heading into the Feb. 9 Super Bowl with the Chiefs favored to win a third consecutive Lombardi Trophy.

Betting an Outright Winner

The Chiefs, going after an unprecedented third consecutive Super Bowl title, opened at -130 to win the Super Bowl compared to +110 odds for the Eagles to win. The lines already moved slightly and will likely continue to do so.

There is more of a betting reward in picking the Eagles to win the game. However, you would still be fine taking the Chiefs to win outright.

Right now, that seems like the best option when betting on the game result since the NFL spread has the Chiefs favored by just one point.

When the teams last met in the Super Bowl two years ago, Philadelphia went off as a one-point favorite, only to have the Chiefs win 38-35.

Betting the Total

With the way that the Eagles moved the ball in their 55-23 win over the Washington Commanders in the NFC Championship Game, the total could easily move before the ball is snapped in the final game of the NFL season.

Right now, the total is at 49.5. When looking at the NFL betting trends, just nine of Philadelphia’s 20 games this season went over the total while eight of the 19 games landed over for the Chiefs.

Check Out The Player Props

There are Super Bowl player prop bets available for the first touchdown scorer and anytime touchdown scorer, as well as just about any passing, rushing and receiving category you can come up with.

The Chiefs tend to spread things around both in rushing attempts and passing targets while the Eagles have a clear pecking order with Saquon Barkley the top rusher and A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith and Dallas Goedert the most likely players to be on the end of Jalen Hurts passes.

There are player prop options for tackles, sacks and interceptions. Player doubles bets can’t be ignored.

if you think A.J. Brown will score a touchdown and the Eagles will win, that currently carries +284 odds. That is a more lucrative bet than just taking Brown at +160 to score a TD.

There are head-to-head bets as well. Goedert is priced at +144 to have more receiving yards than fellow tight end Travis Kelce of the Chiefs.

There are also odds in the BetUS sportsbook for the longest completion and reception.

Game Scoring Props

Picking one team to win doesn’t offer the same payout as projecting the winning margin with your online bet. That can be done in the first half or for the entire game.

The Chiefs have +280 odds to win by 1-6 points while the Eagles are at +335 to win by six points or less.

There are bettings options on the number of points scored and you can pick how the first points of the game are scored.

Betting the Game Props

While player props can attract plenty of attention, don’t forget about game props.

If you think the game will start as a defensive slugfest, take a look at the +176 odds for the first score to come after the eight-minute mark compared to -239 odds for the first points to come before that.

While the payout for the Eagles and/or Chiefs to go over 1.5 touchdowns isn’t too enticing, the Eagles come in at -118 to go over 1.5 field goals with the Chiefs at -130 to do the same.

If you think this will be a back-and-forth contest, consider the +138 odds for neither team to score three times in a row.

The first team to hit a specific point total is a popular Super Bowl betting option.

The Eagles are at +100 to be the first team to score 10 points, +102 to beat the Chiefs to 15 points and +104 in the race to 20 points. The odds for the Chiefs are -129, -132 and -134.

Specialty Props Available

More than just the game result can be wagered on.

One option is to bet on the coin toss, which determines which team gets the ball first.

There are -105 odds for the coin to land on heads and -105 odds for it to land on tails.

More non-football props will be available when the game gets closer.

When making NFL picks, there are also props for the length of the national anthem and which color Gatorade will be poured on the coach of the winning team.
