Betting on 2023 NFL Season: Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars were one of the most profitable NFL picks of the 2022 season. The sportsbook gave Jacksonville a 6½ projected win total. The Jags crushed their expectations, finishing 9-8 while winning the AFC South.

For the 2023 season, Jacksonville has a projected win total of 9½. The Jaguars showed off high potential with five consecutive wins to end the 2022 regular season. Plus, they defeated the Los Angeles Chargers in the Wild Card Round with a 27-point comeback. The Jags have a beaming future with quarterback Trevor Lawrence at the helm. How far will they go in 2023?

Jacksonville Jaguars, Yay or Nay?

Jacksonville was a mainstay for sports betting to end the 2022 season. The Jaguars went 6-1 against the spread (ATS) in the final seven games, including the playoffs. With a young roster and exciting additions, the hype keeps building. I am one of many buying into Jacksonville.

Lawrence was excellent in the second half of 2022. Remember, he was hailed as one of the most talented prospects ever coming out of Clemson. Lawrence is just getting started, and we could see another leap in the 2023 season. According to NFL lines, Lawrence is +1600 to win the MVP Award.

It’s not just Lawrence either. The defense has talented youngsters, like linebacker Travon Walker and safety Andre Cisco. The Jags should be improved.

Three Players to Watch

Jacksonville did not add much in free agency. The Jaguars spent a ton of money in 2022, which led to an underwhelming offseason. However, Jacksonville has one major addition in 2023. The Jags traded for wide receiver Calvin Ridley in 2022, who was suspended last season for violating the league’s online gambling policy. Ridley posted 1,374 receiving yards in his last full season in 2020. He’s looked strong throughout the offseason, and Jacksonville could have a star receiver.

Walker was the No. 1 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. He was up and down during his rookie season. Walker entered the league as a raw player with sky-high potential and could begin to flash superstar potential in year two.

Jawaan Taylor, who was the starting right tackle in 2022, signed with the Kansas City Chiefs in free agency. Left tackle Cam Robinson will also serve a four-game suspension to start the year. Walker Little must step up in the starting role.

Season Prediction

The Jags no longer have the luxury of the underdog role. They now have high expectations to meet. NFL odds have Jacksonville priced as the favorite to win the AFC South (-165). It also has a 66.7% chance of making the playoffs.

Can Jacksonville take the next step and become a contender? Some NFL predictions have the Jaguars as a dark horse to win the AFC (+1400). This isn’t too far-fetched, as Jacksonville has several players capable of making big leaps. Still, the odds are slim in the loaded AFC. I expect the Jags to win the AFC South and possibly win a playoff game. Anything beyond that would be a surprise.
