The Kansas City Chiefs host the Buffalo Bills at 6:30 pm ET in the AFC Championship at Arrowhead Stadium. The Chiefs had a first-round bye in the Wild Card round. They had an extra week to rest and prepare for the Houston Texans, who they defeated 24-13 in the Divisional Round. In Super Bowl odds, Kansas City continues to trail the Philadelphia Eagles but has been the favorite among AFC teams for most of the season.

The Chiefs finished the season with the best record in the AFC at 15-2. Kansas City is two more wins away from a historic third consecutive Super Bowl win. This will be the seventh straight appearance for the Chiefs in the AFC title game.

Meanwhile, the Bills defeated the Ravens 27-25 in the Divisional Round and knocked off Lamar Jackson. Josh Allen played at an MVP level all season long and has an opportunity to exercise revenge this Sunday.

Let’s dive deeper into the Bills vs Chiefs AFC Championship game.

Bills vs Chiefs AFC Championship: Coaching Matchup

Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid

Last season, Kansas City became the first back-to-back Super Bowl champion in two decades under Reid. This season, Kansas City locked up its tenth consecutive AFC West title. Andy Reid has the Chiefs in their seventh consecutive AFC Championship game. Every season since Mahomes became a starting quarterback under Reid, he has had his team in this position—an incredible feat.

It took 21 seasons for Reid to win a Super Bowl title, and he is seeking his fourth Lombardi Trophy in six seasons. He is one of four head coaches to make five Super Bowl appearances, and his three titles make him one of only four coaches to win at least three.

2024 marked Reid’s 26th season as an NFL head coach. He owns a 258-144-1 regular season record and adds a 27-16 postseason record, giving him 285 total wins, which ranks fourth in NFL history and first among active head coaches.

NFL betting fans saw Reid join the Chiefs after 14 seasons as Head Coach/Executive Vice President of Football Operations of the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Chiefs have made the playoffs in ten of Reid’s 11 seasons in Kansas City, and he has 15 playoff wins with the franchise. Reid is the only head coach in NFL history to win 100 games with two different franchises (the Eagles and Chiefs) and the only head coach to win 10 playoff games with two different franchises. He has also taken the Chiefs and Eagles to four consecutive conference championship games, the only coach ever to accomplish the feat for two organizations.

Reid spent seven seasons as an assistant coach with the Green Bay Packers under head coach Mike Holmgren. He served as the tight ends coach, assistant offensive line coach (1992-96), and quarterbacks coach (1997-98). He is well on his way to a gold jacket and Canton.

He has 27 postseason wins, trailing only Belichick (31). One of Reid’s many strengths is his ability to prepare his team. On extra rest, Reid is 8-1 in the playoffs and 3-2 in Super Bowls. He’s 22-4 after the bye in the regular season. Reid is one of the best coaches in the sport’s history and an extremely creative play-caller.

Chiefs Defensive Coordinator Steve Spagnuolo

The Chiefs’ defensive coordinator, Steve Spagnuolo, gets an honorable mention. He’s been with Reid for the last six seasons and is the only coordinator to win four Super Bowls, one with the Giants and three with the Chiefs. Last season, he coached the unit to the second-fewest points per game (17.1) and had the second-most sacks in the league (57). This season, the Chiefs allowed the fourth-fewest points per game (19.2,) and finished in the top ten in nearly every significant defensive category. He has built a powerhouse, and the NFL odds reflect it.

Bills Head Coach Sean McDermott

McDermott was hired by Buffalo in 2017 and has brought the team to the postseason in seven of eight seasons. This is notable because the Bills had not reached the playoffs for 17 straight years before hiring McDermott. He has unified the city and changed the culture in the locker room.

Buffalo has won the AFC East six consecutive times under McDermott. Buffalo joins Kansas City as the only teams to win double-digit games and reach the playoffs for the last six seasons.

The Bills hired McDermott after he spent six seasons as the defensive coordinator of the Panthers. He led a top-10 defense four times in Carolina and helped the Panthers earn three NFC South titles and a trip to Super Bowl 50. In 2015, McDermott’s defense helped lead the way to a 15-1 record and a trip to Super Bowl 50.

He spent his first 12 NFL seasons with Philadelphia under Andy Reid, working his way up to defensive coordinator in 2009-10. He joined the Eagles in 1998 as a scouting administrative coordinator before being promoted to assistant to the head coach under Reid in 1999. McDermott and Reid have known each other for over a quarter century, making every matchup between the two at BetUS Sportsbook extra special.

Bills Offensive Coordinator Joe Brady

The Bills offensive coordinator gets an honorable mention. The 35-year-old took over the Bills offense midway through the 2023 NFL season after they fired Ken Dorsey. Under Brady, Buffalo has one of the NFL’s most efficient and explosive units. The Bills finished the 2024 season ranked second in EPA per play (0.18), while Josh Allen recorded 41 total touchdowns in an MVP-caliber season. Notably, Brady helped coordinate the 2019 Joe Burrow-led LSU Tigers, which also had Justin Jefferson and Ja’Marr Chase.
