Chargers vs Buccaneers Betting Odds: Head-to-Head
While these two interconference foes only meet once every four years, Tampa Bay has won two straight. The Bucs recorded a 28-21 home win as a 3.5-point underdog back in 2016, and beat the Bolts 34-24 as a 3-point road favorite in 2012. Prior to that, the Chargers won 41-24 in Tampa in 2008 to cover the spread as a 3.5-point underdog. The Over has gone 2-0-1 during the three-game span.

The Chargers kicked off their 2020 season by recording a narrow 16-13 win over Cincinnati while narrowly covering the chalk as a 2.5-point road favorite. The Bolts then put up a great effort in their 23-20 Week 2 overtime loss against the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs. The Bolts easily covered the chalk as Herbert passed for 311 yards with one touchdown and one interception.
In Week 3, LA was on the wrong end of a narrow 21-16 loss against Carolina despite the fact that Herbert passed for 330 yards with one TD and one interception despite failing to cover as a 6-point home favorite. Even in defeat, Herbert became the third quarterback since the merger to throw for 300 yards in his first two starts.
“I’m disappointed in the loss. Those are games that you’d love to win, but turn the ball over three times, you can’t expect to win,” Herbert said.
Stats Pack
The Chargers are ranked fifth in total offense, seventh in passing and sixth in rushing, but also rank an uninspiring 29th in scoring (17.3 ppg). Defensively, the Bolt are ranked an impressive ninth overall, an identical ninth against the pass, 11th against the run and stellar fourth in points allowed (19.0 ppg).
No Heckling Ekeler!
Fourth-year running back Austin Ekeler might not exactly be a household name, but the way he’s been playing this season suggests he should be. The unheralded former Western State star has 236 rushing yards and one touchdown while averaging 5.0 yards per carry. Ekeler also has 16 receptions for an additional 142 yards to give him an impressive 378 yards from scrimmage.

Players to Fade
Second-year tight end Jalen Guyton is the one player you want to fade this week for LA. The 23-year-old former North Texas star has a modest four catches this season, although he did have two grabs for 23 yards in Week 3. Playing alongside leading receiver, tight end Hunter Henry (16 receptions), and wide receivers, Mike Williams (7 catches) and Keenan Allen (8 catches), Guyton just isn’t going to catch many passes this season.

The Buccaneers got humbled in their regular-season opener by falling at New Orleans 34-23 while failing to cash in as a 4-point underdog. Tom Brady and company bounced back nicely in Week 2 to beat Teddy Bridgewater and the division rival Carolina Panthers 31-17 while easily covering the chalk as a 7.5-point home favorite. Tampa Bay then cruised to an easy 28-10 win over Denver to cash in as a 6-point road favorite as Brady passed for 297 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions. Mike Evans hauled in two of those TD tosses.
Stats Pack
The Buccaneers are ranked 25th in total offense, 18th in passing, 27th in rushing and 14th in scoring (27.3 ppg). Defensively, Tampa Bay ranks fourth overall, 14th against the pass, third against the run and seventh in points allowed (20.3 ppg).
Tom’s Terrific…Kind Of!
While Tom Brady is a sure-fire first-ballot Hall of Famer, he’s been solid, if not spectacular through three games with Tampa Bay – although he’s trending in the right direction heading into Week 4. After tossing two touchdowns and two picks in Week 1, Brady threw one TD pass – and another pick in Week 2. After throwing three touchdown passes and no picks last weekend, Brady has six TD passes and three picks. More importantly, he has a passer rating of 92.0, which is better than the 88.0 rating he posted in his final season in New England a year ago, but still ranks as the third-worst passer rating of his career. Brady will be tested by a Chargers defense that ranks fourth in points allowed.

Players to Fade
Running back LeSean McCoy might be nicknamed ‘Shady’ but he’s been more like a shadow of his former self in rushing one time in three games for -5 yards. He has added eight catches for 52 yards. Playing behind Ronald Jones and Leonard Fournette, McCoy just won’t put up big numbers in 2020.
