Chiefs Acquire All-Pro WR DeAndre Hopkins via Trade

Kansas City Traded a Conditional Fourth-Round Pick for the Star Receiver

The Rich Get Richer

There’s been a lot of wide receiver movement around the NFL the past couple of weeks. The Kansas City Chiefs have been at the center of many of those NFL rumors but missed out on Davante Adams and Amari Cooper.

However, they wouldn’t be denied. According to NFL news from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Chiefs have traded with the Tennessee Titans for star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins.

The Chiefs only had to give up a conditional fourth-round pick so it’s a small price to pay for a star wide receiver. Plus, the Titans are going to take on some of DeAndre Hopkins’ contract to help facilitate the deal. DeAndre Hopkins’ stats haven’t been as strong in recent years but he has received inconsistent quarterback play. He’s now going to play with the best quarterback in the NFL Patrick Mahomes.

Hopkins has to be pretty happy he’s not playing NFL games in Tennessee anymore.

What This Means for Chiefs?

The rich get richer. The Chiefs’ offense stinks this season but the team is still undefeated thanks to an elite defense. A big reason for the offensive struggles has been due to an injured wide receiver corps.

Well, now the Chiefs just added a very good veteran wide receiver. However, it’s hard to see this making them that much better. Hopkins has dealt with injury issues himself the last few years and he’s 32 now. He’s not the same All-Pro player he once was.

That said, he should be good in the short term. He’s definitely better than what the Chiefs have right now and he’s played in some big games. Mahomes needs players to throw to and he should see a good amount of targets. The Chiefs were already the favorites to win the 2025 Super Bowl again, per BetUS odds and this definitely doesn’t hurt their chances.
