Chiefs on Pace to Become Worst Team Ever to Win Three Straight Super Bowls
Kansas City Earned Another Close Victory With a Dramatic Last-Second Field Goal
They Can’t Keep Getting Away With It…
It was your typical Sunday in NFL news with the Pittsburgh Steelers beating the Cleveland Browns at home, Saquon Barkley breaking the Philadelphia Eagles’ single-season rushing record, and the New York Jets extending their playoff drought to 14 seasons.
The Mighty Chiefs
Oh, and the Kansas City Chiefs capped the day with what they do best: Troll fans by looking like they’re going to lose before another close win. This 19-17 victory against the Chargers clinched the team’s ninth-straight AFC West title, extended their NFL record to 15 straight wins in games decided by one score, and even got a doink off the goal post on the game-winning field goal from backup kicker Matthew Wright.

Perfect finish; no notes. The Chiefs are now 12-1, a full two NFL games above the rest of the AFC for the No. 1 seed after the Bills slipped up in Los Angeles. If they get home field, they may very well go the distance and become the first team to ever win three straight Super Bowls.
The NFL rumors keep trying to paint this as the luckiest team in NFL history. Their plus-54 scoring differential is the smallest for a team to start 12-1 or better. But star defender Chris Jones said that he likes these close wins, because the Chiefs “keep the ratings, baby.”

It’s also great preparation for what’s to come in the playoffs where you can’t breeze your way through that tournament to a championship. Not in this era.
The Champs Are Still the Standard
At the end of the day, winning is still the goal every week. Style points don’t carry over to next week, and you won’t face teams like the Titans and Jaguars, who played a 10-6 barnburner on Sunday, in the playoffs. You’re only going to face the best competition, and right now, the Chiefs are still the gold standard for a championship-caliber team that knows how to win in a variety of ways.
People get so mad at the Chiefs for winning the way they do and not nearly as mad at other teams for losing games like this.

So many people are starved for a new champion that they’ve turned the 2024 Chiefs into a weekly fraud alert instead of the team that’s still most likely to be there in the end.
Are you going to trust the Ravens (8-5) over the Chiefs given the fact they’ve already lost to the Browns and Raiders, and Lamar Jackson historically struggles with the Steelers, Chiefs, and the postseason in general? Even Buffalo’s already lost, 35-10, to that team.
You’ll hear about the Chiefs struggling to win division games, but where’s that energy for the Lions (also 12-1) skirting the Bears and Packers at home these last two weeks? Good thing Matt Eberflus can’t manage the clock, and Jared Goff still got the handoff after tripping on fourth down.

You’ll hear about the Chiefs needing a game-winning field goal in Carolina to beat Bryce Young, but let’s keep that same energy when the Eagles (-13.5) survived the Panthers after Xavier Legette dropped this touchdown in the last minute:

This is the NFL. The 2024 Chiefs have flaws, but so did the 2022 and 2023 teams. No one’s perfect, but if anyone can pull off a historic three-peat in less-than-ideal circumstances, it’s the team with Patrick Mahomes at quarterback that likely hasn’t played their best football yet.
