The Green Bay Packers have the NFC’s best record, and a win over the Cleveland Browns would go a long way toward the postseason going through Lambeau Field. Cleveland is in must-win mode and a big underdog in the NFL odds, and could be without Defensive Player of the Year candidate Myles Garrett.

Head-to-Head Cleveland Browns at Green Bay Packers
Green Bay prevailed 27-21 in the last meeting in 2017 on Davante Adams’ 25-yard touchdown reception in overtime. The Packers were a 2½-point favorite in the NFL picks against the spread. The game went over 38½ on Adams’ TD catch with 17 seconds remaining in regulation. Green Bay has won the last three meetings and 13 of 20.
Next game: at Pittsburgh Steelers
Cleveland lost a crucial game to visiting Las Vegas 16-14 as a 2½-point underdog. The Browns were poised to pull out a crucial victory without starting quarterback Baker Mayfield (COVID-19 list) – and a win for all their backers betting online – after taking a 14-13 lead with 3:45 to play. The Raiders, though, kicked a field goal as time expired. The total was 41½.
Garrett is questionable to play after injuring his groin against Las Vegas. Garrett, whose 15 sacks were tied for third-most in the NFL entering Week 16, was listed as a non-participant on Tuesday’s practice report. Cleveland’s pass rush already took a blow when defensive end Takk McKinley sustained a season-ending Achilles injury versus the Raiders.
Green Bay Packers
Next game: vs Minnesota Vikings
Green Bay took advantage of a Lamar Jackson-less Baltimore team – but barely – in a 31-30 triumph. The Packers led 31-17 as a 9½-point favorite with 9:24 remaining. Players who backed the Packers on the money line were sweating profusely when coach John Harbaugh opted to try a two-point conversion after the Ravens scored a touchdown with 42 seconds to play, but the pass was incomplete. The total was 45.
Green Bay could be without a pair of key wide receivers. Marquez Valdes-Scantling was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Tuesday while Equanimeous St. Brown suffered a concussion against Baltimore. The quick turnaround to Christmas makes it even tougher to make it back. Running back Aaron Jones (knee) was listed as limited on Tuesday’s estimated practice report.
Betting on the Game
The underdog Browns have attracted interest as the spread in the Las Vegas odds has dropped more than a point since opening at nine. The total has decreased by one point with a cloudy and cold – and perhaps a bit windy – night expected in Green Bay.
The Packers are a sparkling 11-3 ATS, but have split their last four after failing against Baltimore. The over has clicked in Green Bay’s past four after the under delivered in eight of its first 10 games of 2021. Cleveland has split its over-unders, with the low coming through in three of its last four. The Browns are 6-8 ATS after snapping a four-game slide in such action against the Raiders.
Cleveland is in the top 10 in rushing and passing defense, and has an excellent chance to cover, especially if Green Bay does not have all its weapons. Packers quarterback and playmaker extraordinaire Aaron Rodgers will still have Adams at his disposal, though, so it’s hard to imagine the Packers losing.
Both teams will play on short rest, but the Browns have had one less day to recover because their game against the Raiders was postponed to Monday.
