Houston Texans vs Kansas City Chiefs: AFC Divisional Round

The AFC Playoffs will continue this weekend with a pair of Divisional Round games, including the Houston Texans vs Kansas City Chiefs contest. Kansas City is the number two seed in the AFC, while Houston is the number four seed.

Houston needed overtime to get past the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Wild Card Round to advance to play in this game. The Texans were champions of the AFC South this season, finishing the season with a record of 10-6. Kansas City got to rest up during the Wild Card Round and should be fresh for this game. The Chiefs finished the season with a record of 12-4 to win the AFC West. Kansas City is a -9.5 point favorite in this game.

Texans Need More From Their Defense

If the Houston Texans are going to win this game then they are going to need their defense to step up. Houston hardly got any pressure on the Buffalo Bills quarterback in the Wild Card round, and that simply won’t work against Patrick Mahomes. The Texans allowed over 24 points per game during the regular season, and that could prove costly in this game.

The Texans do have a very explosive offense that is led by quarterback Deshaun Watson. Watson threw for close to 4,000 yards during the regular season, and made huge plays for his team when they needed it. Wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins is a deep threat on every play, but the Chiefs will definitely have him covered. Houston will have to find balance on offense in this one.

Chiefs Will Throw it Deep

The Kansas City Chiefs are one of the best offensive teams in the NFL, and they are going to throw the ball deep in this game. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes is the reigning MVP, and he routinely throws for over 300 yards. Kansas City averages over 28 points per game this season, and they also have the fifth-best passing offense. The Chiefs have plenty of weapons and downfield threats.

Defense has been a struggle for the Chiefs in recent seasons, but that’s not the case in 2019-20. The Chiefs are allowing just 19.3 points per game, and they know how to get pressure on opposing quarterbacks. Kansas City racked up 45 sacks during the season, and they will make life difficult on Watson. Below we’ll cover our picks for this Houston Texans vs Kansas City Chiefs AFC Divisional round matchup.

Kansas City Blows Out Houston to Advance

The Houston Texans are a little lucky to be even in this game after struggling with the Buffalo Bills in the Wild Card Round. Houston does have the offense to keep up with the Chiefs in a shootout, but their defense is going to have to be much better in this game. Kansas City is always tough to beat at home, and they are one of the Super Bowl favorites at this point. Bet the Kansas City Chiefs -9.5 over the Houston Texans in the AFC Divisional Round.
