Save the Date

The NFL Week 1 teams are set and so too is the venue for the league’s first-ever game played in Brazil. It will also mark the first time in 50 years that a game will be played on a Friday during the opening week of the season.

Although NFL rumors continue to circulate regarding the actual time of the game, as of this writing it has yet to be announced. However, we do know that the game will take place on Friday, September 6th, 2024, in São Paulo, Brazil at Corinthians Arena, home to the Brazilian soccer team SC Corinthians with a seating capacity for over 47,000 people. The highly-anticipated event will be streamed exclusively on Peacock.

This is not the first time the Philadelphia Eagles have played in an International Series Game as they battled the Jacksonville Jaguars in London back in 2018 where they came away with a 24-18 victory in front of an enthralled audience at Wembley Stadium. The Eagles also made NFL news when they played preseason games in Mexico City in 1978, London in 1989 and 1991, and Tokyo in 1993.

People Are Talking

Jeffrey Lurie, Philadelphia Eagles Chairman and CEO, has been a vocal proponent of bringing the NFL to the international stage. In February, the Eagles were announced as one of two teams to participate in the September 6th contest in Brazil but it was only recently that their opponent, the Green Bay Packers, was chosen as their opponent.

At the time Lurie said, “The Eagles organization is honored to have been selected to play in the first-ever National Football League game in South America. With the global growth of our sport being a top priority to our league, we embrace the opportunity to grow our fanbase around the world and bring Eagles football to the 38 million sports fans in Brazil. One of the world’s most culturally diverse nations, Brazil is an international melting pot, and we look forward to experiencing its warm, vibrant, and welcoming environment later this year.”

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell commented on the international event during Super Bowl Week, saying, “This landmark first international game in South America demonstrates the ongoing expansion of our global footprint. Playing on Friday night of Week 1 is a unique way to highlight our international growth and ambitions.”
