Get in the (Red) Zone for Stefon Diggs 2024 Props

The 2023 season for the Houston Texans was shocking. After winning just three games in 2022, the Texans completed an incredible turnaround, going 10-6m finishing atop the AFC South and even winning a playoff game. That sudden surge has shifted NFL lines but also led to the Texans making a big offseason trade for star wide receiver Stefon Diggs.

There were two massive reasons for the Texans’ 180, going from a dismal franchise to one with hope. One reason was hiring head coach DeMeco Ryans, a former defensive coordinator. Ryans added defensive talent in the draft and free agency while his coaching tied everything together.

However, the most significant impact on the team’s turnaround is likely to have been Offensive Rookie of the Year C.J. Stroud falling into their laps with the No. 2 overall pick in 2023. It became clear early on that Stroud was special, throwing for 4,108 yards, 23 touchdowns and five interceptions in his rookie season.

Given how amazing Stroud looked in his rookie season, it is surprising that he did not have a prototypical No.1 wide receiver. His top receiver was Nico Collins, who led the Texans in receptions (80) and yards (1,297).

That is where Diggs can step in. He has been a Pro Bowl receiver for four straight seasons with the Buffalo Bills and is going to a new situation to prove himself with another elite quarterback.

Is Diggs the No. 1 For Texans

During Diggs’ time with the Bills, he proved to be one of the top wide receivers in the NFL. In his first season, in 2020, Diggs would lead the league in receptions (127) and yards (1,535). That was after five solid seasons with the Minnesota Vikings and it was clear Diggs could be more, which is why the Bills traded for him.

Diggs then had his first double-digit touchdown season in 2021, with 10, adding 103 receptions and 1,225 yards. The 2022 season would be another productive one for Diggs with 108 receptions, 1,429 yards and 11 touchdowns.

However, Diggs’ slight dip in stats during the 2023 season, along with the Bills’ lack of playoff success, contributed to him being traded. He caught 107 balls but only led to 1,183 yards and eight touchdowns, including only one in the last eight games.

Diggs’s drop in production and lack of playoff success were not the only reasons he was traded. The trade made sense, given his contract and the fact he will turn 31 in the 2024 season. Also, there was a growing disconnect between Diggs and quarterback Josh Allen. The Texans swooped in with a 2025 second-round pick and potentially got Stroud a true No.1 wideout.

There isn’t an argument against Diggs immediately being the Texans’ No. 1 option. Last season, Collins got the most targets in his third season in the league while Tank Dell was a rookie with the second most. Both are good receivers, which takes some pressure off Diggs to dominate every play, but he still has the advantage, making him the immediate go-to option. Furthermore, the Texans have restructured Diggs’s contract, removing his remaining years and essentially making him a one-year rental.

Best Stefon Diggs 2024 Prop Bet: Red Zone Threat

One NFL future prop bet stands out among the rest when looking at what is up on the BetUS website regarding Diggs. Diggs scoring 10+ touchdowns in the regular season feels like a solid bet, especially with odds at +300.

While it might be safer to bet on Diggs putting up over 1,000 yards next season, having done that in the previous six, the payout is not the best. On top of that, betting on Diggs to have a big season in yards might be hopeful. The Texans still have receivers in Collins and Dell that Stroud already trusts. Both are also big-play receivers, the part of Diggs’ game that has suffered the most due to age, losing part of his explosiveness, which led to the down year in 2023.

While Diggs might get the most targets, Collins and Dell will still get a lot while possibly making bigger plays.

However, Diggs has not taken a step back in running routes. He is still one of the best route runners in the NFL, which will make him dangerous in the red zone. The defense won’t be able to lean his way because of Collins and Dell, opening up massive parts of the field. That could lead to a lot of man coverage and Diggs isolated near the goal line, which could be a touchdown on almost every play.

Diggs might not have the receptions or yards like other years, but his touchdown stats could improve, making it a solid NFL picks prop bet.
