Greatest Green Bay Packers Players of All Time
The Green Bay Packers have won an NFL-record 810 games with four Super Bowl titles and nine NFL championships in the pre-Super Bowl era. That has resulted in some of the best players in NFL history suiting up for the Packers.
When looking at the approximate value totals on the Pro Football Reference site, three of the top 10 players played for the Packers. You won’t see many European NFL players on the list of the top players in Packers history.

Ted Hendricks and Jan Stenerud are among the best non-American NFL players to suit up for the Packers.
Let’s look at the Green Bay Packers’ best players, with quarterbacks dominating the list. Current Packers quarterback Jordan Love didn’t make the list, but he is one of the current Green Bay players that those who bet on NFL players should keep an eye on.
Ranking The Best Green Bay Packers Players
Bart Starr, Quarterback
While Bart Starr’s numbers might not rival those of future Green Bay Packers quarterbacks Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers, nobody epitomizes the franchise’s winning legacy more than Starr.
He was the starting quarterback on the first two Super Bowl champions and the quarterback of a Green Bay team that won five NFL titles in seven seasons from 1961 to 1967. He is clearly among the Green Bay Packers’ greatest players.
As Green Bay’s starting quarterback, he had a 94-57-6 regular-season record but was 9-1 in the playoffs.
Don Hutson
Just imagine the numbers Hutson could put up in the modern NFL with the pass-happy rules. He is among the Packers’ legends.
In his 11-year career, he led the NFL in receptions eight times, in receiving yards on seven occasions, and was the receiving touchdown leader nine times in his first 10 seasons. He was a member of three NFL championship teams.
Brett Favre
In one of the best trades in franchise history, the Packers traded the 17th overall pick in the 1992 NFL Draft to the Atlanta Falcons for Favre.
He was named the NFL’s Most Valuable Player by The Associated Press three years in a row and played for the Packers for 16 seasons in Green Bay. His gunslinger approach made for more incredible highlights and some ugly mistakes during his time as a Green Bay player.
A 13-11 career playoff record could result in Favre being lower on this list, and some ugly circumstances have surrounded him since he last took a snap with the Packers. However, he is one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history.
Aaron Rodgers
Rodgers is a four-time winner of the NFL Most Valuable Player award and has topped the NFL in passer rating four times, becoming one of the famous Green Bay Packers.
Much like Favre, his playoff record of 11-10 is nothing to write home about. Four wins came in the playoffs following the 2010 season, when he led the Packers to the Super Bowl title. He had nine touchdowns and two interceptions in the four games, with two more rushing touchdowns.
His legacy has taken a hit in recent years, especially after a failed two-year run with the New York Jets. However, when he started at least 15 games in a season for the Packers, he led Green Bay to at least 10 wins a total of 10 times in 13 seasons.
Ray Nitschke
It is hard to list the best linebackers in NFL history without mentioning the Packers’ star middle linebacker.
Nitschke was a five-time Super Bowl champion and part of the NFL’s 50th and 75th anniversary teams. Nitschke was the defensive leader of Vince Lombardi’s Packers teams, which dominated the NFL in the 1960s.
Paul Hornung
The “Golden Boy” might be the best all-around player not only for the Packers but for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He won the Heisman Trophy before being the first overall pick in the 1957 draft.
Hornung led the Packers in rushing yards, receiving yards, yards per carry, and yards per reception at different times.
Sterling Sharpe
Injuries kept Sharpe from putting up bigger numbers. In his final three seasons, Sharpe had 108, 112, and 94 catches, with 42 touchdowns. His career ended due to a neck injury in 1994, when he was just 29.
If he had another 5-7 years, his numbers might have been among the best in NFL history.
Jim Taylor
Taylor teamed with Hornung and Starr in a star-studded backfield for the Packers. He had five consecutive 1000-yard seasons and led the NFL with 1474 rushing yards and 19 scoring runs in 1962.
Along with Hornung, he was part of the Packers team that won the first Super Bowl.
Reggie White
The Minister of Defense only played for the Packers for six seasons, but he had 79 sacks during that time. He will go down as one of the most dominant defensive players to ever step on a football field.
Forrest Gregg
There are those who watched the 1960s Packers team who would argue that Gregg, a dominant offensive lineman, might have been the best player on those teams.
Gregg was part of three Super Bowl championship teams as a player (two with the Packers) and coached the Cincinnati Bengals to a Super Bowl appearance.
