- The Eagles have the top-rated offensive line in the NFL.
- Patrick Mahomes is going to face a challenging group of Eagles pass rushers.
The NFL spread continues to favor the Kansas City Chiefs as Patrick Mahomes and company are 1-point favorites versus the Philadelphia Eagles. While the quarterbacks generate a lot of the Super Bowl attention, it is inside the trenches where the game will likely be won and lost.

Before making your Super Bowl picks, let’s take a look at how the offensive lines and defensive lines of the two teams stack up.
Life will be a lot easier for quarterbacks Mahomes and Jalen Hurts if the playmakers have time in the pocket. Yet, there are a lot of pass rushers aiming to make sure this does not happen.
Here’s what you need to know about how the Chiefs and Eagles matchup in the trenches.
Super Bowl 59: 2 Keys for O-Line and D-Line Matchups
1. Philadelphia Has the Top Rated Offensive Line
How much of a difference can a strong offensive line make? We saw the Eagles drop 55 points on the Washington Commanders in the NFC Championship Game as the O-line gave Hurts plenty of time in the pocket. Not a bad way to cover the spread in the NFL betting odds.

The Eagles were named the NFL’s best offensive line by Pro Football Focus. One thing to watch is two of Philly’s starters Landon Dickerson and Cam Jurgens are battling injuries. Make sure to monitor NFL news for their status.

Two Chiefs who may have something to say about Philly’s highly touted group are defensive tackle Chris Jones and defensive end George Karlaftis. Expect Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo to have a few tricks up his sleeve.
The Eagles still have the edge in this matchup.
2. Philly D-Line Aims to Create Havoc on Patrick Mahomes
The Eagles have forced the most turnovers of any team in the NFL playoffs at 10. This is not all one unit as Philly’s ability to get to the quarterback has forced errant throws.
Pro Football Network’s Ben Rolfe has the Chiefs rated as the No. 5-ranked offensive line. On the other side, Eagles star defensive tackle Jalen Carter has been creating havoc on opposing quarterbacks. Philly also has standout players like Nolan Smith and Zack Baun to throw at Mahomes.
Per Chiefs vs Eagles stats, both teams have registered 10 sacks in the postseason, although Kansas City did it in one fewer game.
After years of being shaky, the Chiefs’ offensive line has become a strength. Carter has a simple strategy heading into the Super Bowl.
“One thing is to sack him,” Carter said of Mahomes, per Pro Football Talk. “…If we do that or get him off his game, I think we’re going to have a good game.”

Yet, the Eagles also hold the edge in this matchup. Philly may hold the advantage in the trenches, but the Mahomes factor is real for Kansas City.
