Jets Fire GM Joe Douglas After 5 Years Without a Winning Season
Facing Playoff Elimination, the Jets Fired Joe Douglas, Aiming for a Rebuild
Time to Move On
The New York Jets’ nightmare 2024 continues. Despite a lot of hype surrounding the team heading into the season, they are currently 3-8 and have lost seven of their last eight. They’ve already fired head coach Robert Saleh and gave play-calling duties to Todd Downing so they’re running out of scapegoats.
However, there was still one major one left in the building. The Jets announced the NFL news that they have fired general manager Joe Douglas.

Winning Is Everything
Douglas has been the team’s general manager since 2019 but has yet to have a winning record in a season. That said, he has made some impressive draft picks like cornerback Sauce Gardner, wide receiver Garrett Wilson and many more good problems.

The thing that held him back was finding the right quarterback. He tried using a high draft pick on Zach Wilson, but that didn’t work out. He then traded for Aaron Rodgers, which has been a disaster for the franchise. Aaron Rodgers’ stats have been abysmal this season. There were NFL rumors about his job status before the season so it was going to be difficult for him to survive a season this bad.
Where Do the Jets Go From Here?
The Jets are a sinking ship. They likely won’t be favored in betting odds for the rest of the NFL schedule. Barring a miracle, there’s almost no way they’ll get back into the playoff mix.
The New York Jets have been on a darkness retreat all season.

The Jets’ biggest mistake was building around a 40-year-old quarterback and letting him convince them to bring in a bunch of older veteran players. New York has a lot of young talent and should’ve built around a young quarterback.
The 2024 New York Jets are one of the biggest jokes in NFL history.
Everyone gets held accountable besides Aaron Rodgers.
My guess is Rodgers is back next year and whoever replaces Robert Saleh and Joe Douglas will be emasculated until Aaron is off the team. pic.twitter.com/x5PRIRgC2r

The Jets could be players for a quarterback in the upcoming draft. If Rodgers doesn’t retire, it’s possible the team tries to move on. They could also let a young quarterback learn behind Rodgers for a season. Regardless, they need to have a hard reset with a new head coach and general manager. There’s enough talent on the roster that they can have a quick turnaround should they find the right quarterback and hire the right head coach.
