Miami Dolphins and WR Odell Beckham Jr. Agree to Part Ways

Odell Beckham Jr. Is Again Hitting the Market, Who Should Go After Him?

OBJ and Dolphins Are Calling It Quits

According to all the main NFL news outlets, veteran wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. and the Miami Dolphins have officially decided to part ways, following OBJ’s request to be released from the team in order to look for better opportunities elsewhere.

Tom Pelissero, one of the most trustworthy sources of information regarding NFL rumors, broke the news today, adding that while the Dolphins still owe Beckham Jr. around $200,000 from the remaining season balance, he will be kept on waivers until Monday when he’ll be able to find a new team to play for.

Now, as OBJ looks for a new team to run routes for, Miami may be eyeing this as the perfect opportunity to elevate rookie Malik Washington to the #3 receiver spot behind Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.

Good Idea on Paper, Not So Much on the Field

So, how does one describe Beckham’s tenure with the Dolphins? It had all the ingredients to make perfect sense if you merely look at it on paper. Even at 32, OBJ can still ball like nobody’s business and has shown to be a great role veteran to add depth to any receiver corps in the league.

Just thinking what a Hill/Waddle/OBJ trio could do was enough to make the Dolphins an early season favorite for NFL picks and predictions fans.

But once reality hit, Miami was faced with a cruel and true reality: Odell is not the kind of player you can have as WR3 behind juggernaut talents like Tyreek and Jaylen.

Joining the team in the fifth game of their season, Beckham, a player known for his explosiveness, recorded zero receptions on 33 snaps. Yes, you read that right, zero. What followed afterward was a total of 18 targets for 55 yards with no touchdowns, far from the expected 36 catches, for 566 yards and 4 TDs that were discussed in the player’s contract as part of an incentive deal.

What’s that? You don’t believe me? Go to your favorite browser, type Odell Beckham Jr stats, check it out yourselves, and tell me I was lying.

If only social media could grace us with a clip of Beckham’s top plays with the Dolphins now.

Wait, hold on.

You’re welcome.

Could an OBJ, Ravens Reunion Happen?

As the NFL schedule for the 2024 season continues to wind down, OBJ’s race to try and snatch a spot in any playoff-contending team will surely be a fun one to watch. But what if instead of shopping his talents around as of Monday, Beckham just knocks on the door of a place he once called home?

A place called Baltimore, with a team needing a receiver, called the Ravens.

The Ravens need to get Lamar Jackson at least one more weapon to work with if they want to post a genuine threat in the playoffs. In a conference as tight as the AFC, getting any extra help on offense could go a long way for Baltimore, a team whose betting odds to win the conference title and Super Bowl LIX continue to be some of the most sought-after.

Face it, even if haters can muster up a list of reasons why Beckham is “washed,” “done with,” “not worth taking the risk on,” or whatever other crap they can come up with, OBJ had a good run with Baltimore. So maybe, just maybe, a reunion could do the trick for a player wanting to regain relevance and a team wanting to take the final step towards title contention.
