New Orleans Saints Fire Dennis Allen After 7th Straight Loss

After an Embarrassing Loss Against the Carolina Panthers, the Saints Will Change Their Head Coach

Time for a Change

After winning their first two NFL games of the season by a combined 62 points, the Saints have lost seven straight, which caused seismic NFL news as head coach Dennis Allen was terminated after the team’s latest debacle against the lowly Carolina Panthers.

Fallen Saints

After the New Orleans Saints throttled the Panthers, 47-10, followed by another impressive 44-19 victory over the Cowboys, there was unbridled joy down on the bayou even though the powerful Philadelphia Eagles were next on the Saints’ schedule.

New Orleans was barely edged out of the postseason last year with a 9-8 Saints record in 2023, but the team had rebounded with a purpose this year, and the sky was the limit. Unfortunately, the sky was just about to fall, and although the first two consecutive setbacks were narrow losses to the Eagles and Falcons, there was still plenty of room for optimism.

However, the skies had darkened and the storm was brewing. The Saints would lose their next four games by 19.5 points before what was expected to be a get-well game against the pitiful Carolina Panthers on Sunday. However, that did not go as planned, and the Panthers rallied to hand the Saints a gut-wrenching 23-22 loss on Sunday.

NFL rumors began to swirl as to the fate of head coach Dennis Allen after the team’s seventh consecutive loss. But it wasn’t long before the team announced they had terminated the longtime Saints employee dating back to his tenure as a defensive assistant in 2015 and head coach since 2022.

Enough Is Enough

Michael Thomas was a second-round pick of the Saints back in 2016 and became an All-Pro wide receiver in 2018 and 2019. He was the team’s go-to guy, but his expiration date with the team began to manifest with a series of injuries in 2020 through 2023 when he last plied his trade with the team.

In March, he was released by the team and has been a free agent ever since. Therefore, it’s not surprising there is a bit of animosity lingering, and the 31-year-old let loose on social media regarding his thoughts on quarterback Derek Carr, whom he played with last season.

The bone of contention came in a dangerous pass thrown to No. 1 wideout Chris Olave, resulting in the 24-year-old’s second concussion of the season and fourth of his career. He is the same man who nudged Thomas from his standing as Carr’s primary weapon in 2023.

Thomas let loose a blizzard of posts on X, some of which have been deleted.

Dude tried to lie and say I was jealous of them making Chris (Olave) WR1 whole time he can’t even get him a decent ball. He need his ass whooped.

Dude scary and panic and just throw the ball. Get him the f out of here he is so ass.

That was only a smattering of Thomas’ tirade, and it was just gasoline being poured on a smoldering fire that erupted into a full-blown blaze. And if that wasn’t bad enough, Chris Olave’s brother, Josh, retweeted Thomas’ “needs his ass whooped” post, agreeing Carr makes too many dangerous throws over the middle.

The coach has been pink-slipped, and Carr may have already lost the locker room. It’s a tough time to be a Saints fan.
