New York Giants Game-by-Game Predictions

Can NFC East Club Upset the Apple Cart?

The New York Giants are primed for a new era as ex-Buffalo Bills staffers Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll take over as the general manager and head coach, respectively. However, they inherit fourth-year quarterback Daniel Jones, who’s led the G-men to a woeful 12-25-0 record as a starter.

As the new-look Giants prepare for the new season, we attempt to answer the question: How much better (if at all) will the G-men be in 2022? We’ll do this by offering up impulsive predictions.

The betting outlook is contained. The Giants are tipped as the fourth-best bet to win the NFC East title and, at the same time, they’re pegged to a regular season win total of 7 with both the over and under juiced to -115.

On the ground, however, expectations are more liberal. There are hopes that Daboll is that wizardly coach. Their very own embodiment of The NFL’s Ultimate Quarterback Whisperer, Bruce Arians. That, with the wave of a wand, he’ll magically transform Jones into a superstar quarterback and the Giants into contenders.

So who’s got it right? The markets? The public? If you’re a forward-thinking NFL bettor, as we are, then read on for our way too early game-by-game predictions for the New York Giants. We dive into their NFL schedule, examine the NFL odds, and take into consideration the latest NFL news, trades, injury reports, and more before delivering our NFL picks and predictions.

New York Giants Game-by-Game Predictions

  • Week 1 at Tennessee Titans – Sunday, Sept. 11, 2022, 4:25 p.m. ET

Was Daboll the making of Josh Allen in Buffalo? Or was Allen the making of Daboll? This is the narrative that will play out over the course of the Giants’ season as the Canadian-born American head coach attempts to get Jones and the Giants on a similar track to Allen and the Bills. Fans won’t have to wait long for the first insight into this dynamic HC-quarterback relationship. The Titans are a tough out on the road. Ryan Tannehill and the Titans’ centerpiece on offense, Derrick Henry, can shred most defenses while an improved Tennessee defense won’t take pity on Jones.

    • Prediction: Loss
    • Record 0-1
  • Week 2 vs Carolina Panthers – Sunday, Sept. 18, 2022, 1 p.m. ET

Smart money is on Baker Mayfield to get the nod over Sam Darnold but it’s not a guarantee. So, it’s worth noting how the complexity of this matchup could change depending on Carolina’s starting quarterback. The Giants crushed Darnold and the Panthers 25-3 last season. This time, assuming Mayfield marches into MetLife Stadium, the outcome might not be so promising.

    • Prediction: Loss
    • Record: 0-2
  • Week 3 vs Dallas Cowboys – Monday, Sept. 26, 2022, 8:15 p.m. ET

Once upon a time, this might have been one of the best rivalries in the NFC East, but those sepia-toned days are long gone. Today, this is a mismatch of epic proportions. Case-and-point: The Cowboys steamrolled the G-men last season, sweeping the series by a combined 65-26 score. Schoen and Daboll were brought in to spark a Giants renaissance, but to pull off the biggest upset in the NFC East – and of the season, potentially – in Week 3 of their first year in the Big Apple and under the attentive gaze of Monday Night Football is hoping for a bit much. Fun Fact: The Giants have never beaten Dak Prescott since he took over in Dallas in 2016.

  • Week 4 vs Chicago Bears – Sunday, Oct. 2, 2022, 1 p.m. ET

This might be the first game the Giants could reasonably be expected to win. The Bears are full of question marks and many reckon they’ll be one of the worst teams this season. The jury is out on Justin Fields and the O-line while the D-line issues are too glaring to ignore. The only way the Giants lose this game is if the short week proves challenging or they’re caught looking ahead to next week’s trip to London.

    • Prediction: Win
    • Record: 1-3
  • Week 5 at Green Bay Packers – Sunday, Oct. 9, 2022, 10:30 a.m. ET (London)

It doesn’t matter if it is Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wis. If it is MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. Or if is Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the land that brought us Harry Potter and Peppa Pig, The Giants simply aren’t beating the Packers anywhere. Pigs will fly before that happens, surely.

Prediction: Loss

Record: 1-4

  • Week 6 vs Baltimore Ravens – Sunday, Oct. 16, 2022, 1 p.m. ET

It used to be that teams would take a bye week after a trip across the pond. These days teams are pushing back their bye weeks to a more centrally located spot in the schedule. That works well for those teams that are better-established, know their abilities and have confidence in their game to be able to adjust to the disruption that a long-haul trip can have on training schedules and preparation. The Giants are not that team. And a week after facing one of the most prolific passers in the game, the Giants will need to shift gears quickly and prepare for the twinkle-toed Lamar Jackson. The only advantage is that the Giants are at home here.

Prediction: Loss

Record: 1-5

  • Week 7 at Jacksonville Jaguars – Sunday, Oct. 23, 2022, 1 p.m. ET

Everyone was buzzing about Trevor Lawrence ahead of the 2022 NFL Draft. He was the moment. He was that quarterback that everyone dreamed of having – a once-in-a-lifetime, generational talent. And he ultimately went first overall in the NFL draft. But he ended up on a very bad team, with an even worse head coach that was the embodiment of Main Character Syndrome. The Jaguars went 3-14-0 as a result. Now, Lawrence is working with new head coach Doug Pederson, who knows a thing or two about the NFC East. He’s also seen Jones’ game up close and personal. That gives the Jaguars an edge on paper, along with a home-field edge.

Prediction: Loss

Record: 1-6

  • Week 8 at Seattle Seahawks – Sunday, Oct. 30, 2022, 4:25 p.m. ET

Unless the Seahawks make an unexpected big move for a quarterback late in the summer, it looks like they’re going to be taking a flutter on either Drew Lock and Geno Smith. If that’s the case, that pretty much says it all.

Week 9 BYE

  • Week 10 vs Houston Texans – Sunday, Nov. 13, 2022, 1 p.m. ET

The Texans were one of the worst teams in 2021. By the NFL odds, they’re not expected to be that much better, even though they’re beginning a new era with widely respected head coach Lovie Smith. This is a game the Giants should win.

    • Prediction: Win
    • Record: 3-6
  • Week 11 vs Detroit Lions – Sunday, Nov. 20, 2022, 1 p.m. ET

The Lions were one of the best three-win teams in recent memory. The way they fought and competed for head coach Dan Campbell was something to behold and they really took it to some of the better teams in the league. If the Lions live up to this season’s expectations, they should be better in 2022. That will make this a tough matchup for the G-men at home.

    • Prediction: Loss
    • Record: 3-7
  • Week 12 at Dallas Cowboys – Thursday, Nov. 24, 2022, 4:30 p.m. ET (Thanksgiving Day)

The Giants take on the Cowboys for the NFL’s customary Thanksgiving Thursday tripleheader. As mentioned earlier, the Cowboys embarrassed the Giants twice last season and Dak Prescott has never lost to the Giants. Two words: déjà vu.

    • Prediction: Loss
    • Record: 3-8
  • Week 13 vs Washington Commanders – Sunday, Dec. 4, 2022, 1 p.m. ET

The Commanders swept this series last season, kicking a last-gasp field goal to seal the 30-29 win (Week 2). By the time, they descended on MetLife Stadium, it was the last week of the season and the Giants couldn’t tap out fast enough. Washington took the 22-7 win. If the Taylor Heinicke-inspired Commanders can beat the Giants, surely the Carson Wentz-inspired installment can do the same or better.

    • Prediction: Loss
    • Record: 3-9
  • Week 14 vs Philadelphia Eagles – Sunday, Dec. 11, 2022, 1 p.m. ET

The Eagles are the vogue pick of the NFC Least set, after a successful 2021 campaign that led to a 9-8-0 record and a wild card spot in the playoffs. The interesting thing here is that question marks still hang over Jalen Hurts. What’s more, the fun facts, so to speak: They beat only one team with a winning record in 2021 (the Saints) and they split this series.

  • Week 15 at Washington Commanders – Sunday, Dec. 18, 2022 – TBD

If the Commanders are better than most expect them to be, they could be sweeping this series again.

    • Prediction: Loss
    • Record: 4-10
  • Week 16 at Minnesota Vikings – Saturday, Dec. 24, 2022, 1 p.m. ET

Christmas won’t be coming early for the Giants as the Vikings are likely to be a tough out at U.S. Bank Stadium on Christmas Eve.

    • Prediction: Loss
    • Record: 4-11
  • Week 17 vs Indianapolis Colts – Sunday, Jan 1, 2023, 1 p.m. ET

Every so often there’s a trap game on the NFL schedule. Teams that have no business winning games against good teams actually do. This could be one of those occasions where the G-men steal an unlikely W.

    • Prediction: Win
    • Record: 5-11
  • Week 18 @ Philadelphia Eagles – Sunday, Jan 8, 2023, TBD

This game is a toss-up. Both teams split this series last season. They could do so again.

    • Prediction: Loss
    • Record: 5-12
