Top NFC contenders Detroit and San Francisco found a way to win while the Philadelphia Eagles made NFL news when they took over sole possession of first place in the NFC East.

You won’t need to wait long for a tasty NFC matchup as the Eagles play at home against the Washington Commanders with first place in the NFC East on the line. The Eagles are listed as 3½-point favorites in the Thursday Night Football game.

Let’s take a look at the top contenders in the NFC as the NFL futures odds have the Detroit Lions at +450 followed by the Eagles and the San Francisco 49ers at +1000 in the odds of winning the Super Bowl.

NFC Super Bowl Rankings: Top 6 Contenders

1. Detroit Lions (+200 to Win the NFC)

Last Week Ranking: 1

Good luck trying to figure out how the Detroit Lions won a game when quarterback Jared Goff threw five interceptions and Detroit trailed by 16 points on the road against a talented Houston Texans team.

Next up for the Lions is a two-win Jacksonville team that managed just seven points in a Week 10 loss to Minnesota. There will be some enticing NFL player props in that game.

Detroit leads the NFL with a +113-point differential. The only loss for the Lions came in Week 2 against Tampa Bay when Detroit outgained the Buccaneers 463-216.

After scoring four touchdowns in his previous three games, Jahmyr Gibbs was held out of the end zone in the 26-23 win over Houston. The star of the game was 25-year-old kicker Jake Bates, who had field goals of 58 and 52 yards in the final 5:01 as Detroit won its seventh game in a row and kept its one-game lead on Minnesota in the NFC North Division.

2. Philadelphia Eagles (+450)

Last Week Ranking: 7

There have been some memorable Eagles-Cowboys matchups over the years. The one in Week 10 was not among them. For all the talking heads having Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott in their crosshairs, how did things look without an injured Prescott at the helm of the Dallas offense?

The 34-6 final score made the game sound closer than it was. Quarterback Jalen Hurts ran for two scores and threw for two others. Even with a quiet game from star running back Saquon Barkley, the Eagles had no issues with their division rivals.

The Eagles are right back at it thanks to the Thursday night matchup with Washington. The Commanders were knocked out of first place in the NFC East after a 28-27 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Eagles have won five games in a row. Playing the New York Giants, Cleveland Browns, Jacksonville Jaguars and the Prescott-less Cowboys certainly helped the Eagles soar into first place in the NFC East.

3. Washington Commanders (+1100)

Last Week Ranking: 2

Are there still any of those who bet online doubting the Commanders? Washington had its chance to take down the Pittsburgh Steelers and remain atop the NFC East even without top running back Brian Robinson Jr.

Rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels is completing 69% of his passes. He is on pace to throw for more than 3,600 yards and run for nearly 800 yards as he is the player to beat in the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year odds at -2000.

Star receiver Terry McLaurin is on his way to another 1,000-yard season while former Super Bowl champion Bobby Wagner has brought some swagger and veteran leadership to the defense.

This is another tough test for the Commanders playing in Philadelphia. However, the Commanders have won two of their last four road games against the Eagles and are 2-0-1 against the NFL spread in the last three. Washington is tied for the NFL lead by covering in seven games and having seven contests land over the total.

4. Minnesota Vikings (+900)

Last Week Ranking: 4

It is safe to assume that Minnesota quarterback Sam Darnold’s 2024 highlight video won’t include much footage from last week’s win over Jacksonville. Darnold had his lowest quarterback rating of the season as the Vikings won in spite of Darnold.

Tight end T.J. Hockenson was much more involved in his second game after missing the first seven games of the season. He caught eight of his nine targets for 72 yards after being limited to three catches in his season debut. Justin Jefferson was targeted nine times for the third week in a row. However, after back-to-back 100-yard games, Jefferson finished with just 48 yards.

Keep an eye on NFL news for injury updates on running back Aaron Jones after he missed some time in the Jacksonville game. Getting linebacker Blake Cashman back after he was out for the previous three games was a huge boost for the offense.

Minnesota’s next two games come against the 2-7 Tennessee Titans and the 4-5 Chicago Bears.

5. Green Bay Packers (+1000)

Last Week Ranking: 3

It hasn’t always looked pretty with the Packers this season. However, Green Bay is 6-3 with a win over the NFC West-leading Arizona Cardinals. The first two losses were by a combined total of seven points to Philadelphia and Minnesota, two of the teams ahead of them in the power rankings.

The Packers are coming off a bye week and that could be good news for quarterback Jordan Love, who has 10 interceptions in seven games. Running back Josh Jacobs has been as good as advertised in his first season in Titletown. Jayden Reed is a rising star at receiver while the top four tacklers are 25 or younger.

The sports betting odds favor the visiting Packers as they face rookie quarterback Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears on Sunday.

6. Arizona Cardinals (+2000)

Last Week Ranking: 5

Arizona has feasted on the struggling New York Jets and Chicago Bears in the last two weeks, outscoring them 60-15 to extend their winning streak to four games. The Cardinals also have a win over NFC West rival San Francisco and that is enough to keep the Cardinals at No. 6 in our weekly rankings of the top NFC title contenders.

Arizona plays Seattle in two of its next three games and there is also a showdown with Minnesota in that stretch so this is the perfect time for the Cardinals to prove that they are here to stay.

Kyler Murray isn’t getting much love when the talk turns to the top quarterbacks in the NFC. With more than 2,000 passing yards, 12 touchdown passes and three interceptions to go with 371 yards and four more scores, that figures to change. Murray is now +1600 in NFL futures odds to win MVP honors.

Murray and the Cardinals probably need to get rookie receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. more involved as he has a total of 88 receiving yards in the last two games. Safety Budda Baker is already at 100 tackles and the Cardinals would be just fine to see the front seven making more tackles moving forward.
