NFC Super Bowl 59 Power Rankings: Can Lions Stay No. 1?

The Detroit Lions and the Philadelphia Eagles had to work for Week 14 victories as they remained at No. 1 and 2 in the weekly NFC power rankings. The New York Giants became the first team from the NFC to be eliminated from playoff contention while the Philadelphia Eagles are the only NFC team with a division lead of more than one game heading into Week 14.

The week gets underway with an NFC West matchup between the Los Angeles Rams and the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday Night Football. The Detroit Lions put their 11-game winning streak on the line against the visiting Buffalo Bills while the Eagles could be tested by the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 15. The NFL betting odds list the Lions and the Eagles as home favorites.

The Minnesota Vikings are still only a game behind Detroit in the NFC North standings. The Lions and Eagles have clinched playoff spots while 13 teams are in contention for the other five postseason berths in the NFC.

Let’s take a look at the top contenders in the NFC as the Detroit Lions are listed at +275 followed by the Eagles at +500 in our odds to win Super Bowl 59.

Super Bowl LIX Rankings: Top 6 Contenders in NFC

1. Detroit Lions (+135 to Win the NFC)

Last Week Ranking: 1

Despite having an early double-digit lead against Green Bay, the Lions found themselves trailing in the fourth quarter. Jared Goff was 5-for-5 to set up the game-winning field goal as the Lions came away with the 34-31 win.

Tim Patrick had a pair of touchdown catches while the running game struggled to get going.

Per Bills vs Lions betting tips, Sunday’s matchup with visiting Buffalo – Detroit has won its last five games decided by seven points or less. The Lions still have a matchup with Minnesota in the regular-season finale as they pursue the top seed in the NFC playoffs. The Lions are hoping not to have to win that game to win the NFC North Division title.

Whether it is Jared Goff having 25 touchdown passes and 10 interceptions or running backs David Montgomery and Jahmy Gibbs combining for 24 touchdowns, this is a tough offense to deal with.

The Lions came into the season listed by BetUS Sportsbook as the No. 3 favorite at +500 to earn the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoffs. Will the Lions deliver on those odds?

2. Philadelphia Eagles (+250)

Last Week Ranking: 2

It wasn’t always pretty as the Eagles failed to cover the NFL spread when listed as a double-digit favorite against the Carolina Panthers. It was a tough showing for the Philadelphia passing game, but Jalen Hurts had a TD pass early in the fourth quarter to take the lead for good.

Saquon Barkley had another 100-yard game to set the franchise record for rushing yards in a season as the Eagles have a three-game lead on Washington in the NFC East with four games left in the regular season. Barkley is the No. 2 betting choice at +450 in NFL MVP odds.

The next two games could be interesting with a home game against the Pittsburgh Steelers and a division showdown with the Washington Commanders.

3. Minnesota Vikings (+800)

Last Week Ranking: 3

Facing their former quarterback Kirk Cousins, current Vikings QB Sam Darnold tossed five touchdown passes with receivers Jordan Addison and Justin Jefferson combining to grab the five TDs.

After four of the previous five games for the Vikings were decided by eight points or less, the Vikings pulled away for a 21-point win against the Atlanta Falcons.

Per Bears vs Vikings betting trends, Minnesota has won six of the last seven meetings with Chicago heading into the Week 15 showdown on Monday Night Football. However, the last time the Bears came to Minnesota, they went home with a 12-10 victory.

Things figure to get tougher after that with games against the 8-5 Seattle Seahawks and the 9-4 Green Bay Packers.

Bet the Minnesota Vikings to Win Super Bowl 59 (+1600)

4. Green Bay Packers (+825)

Last Week Ranking: 4

If the Green Bay Packers could have stopped Detroit more than once on five fourth-down plays, perhaps they would have pulled within a game of the first-place Lions in the NFC North standings. Instead, a late fourth-down conversion led to the game-winning field goal for the Lions.

Green Bay is still looking good to secure a playoff spot, and with a 4-2 road record, the Packers could wreak some havoc in the NFC playoffs.

Josh Jacobs went over the 1,000-yard mark in the loss to the Lions and with 12 touchdowns, it has been a memorable first season with the Packers for Jacobs. Keep an eye on him in the Week 15 player prop bets.

Bet the Green Bay Packers to Win Super Bowl 59 (+1800)

4. Washington Commanders (+2500)

Last Week Ranking: 5

Washington is coming off a bye week and will need to beat the New Orleans Saints on Sunday or have the Eagles lose in Week 15 for next week’s showdown have a role in determining the winner of the NFC East.

The Commanders will need to win out and get some help to have a chance to win the NFC East for the first time since the 2020 season. Will veteran cornerback Marshon Lattimore make his debut for the Commanders against his former team? Keep an eye on the Week 15 NFL injury report to see if Lattimore will be finally cleared to return to the field.

While there are questions about the availability of New Orleans starting quarterback Derek Carr, Washington rookie QB Jayden Daniels has a chance to go over 3,000 passing yards on the season at some point during the game.

Bet the Washington Commanders to Win Super Bowl 59 (+6000)

5. Seattle Seahawks (+2200)

Last Week Ranking: 6

Seattle gets the nod over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the No. 6 spot as Seattle swept the Arizona Cardinals to extend its winning streak to four games.

The next two games won’t be easy with the Green Bay Packers coming to town for a Sunday Night Football game followed by a home game against the 11-2 Minnesota Vikings.

Zach Charbonnet hadn’t gone over 30 rushing yards in his previous nine games but with top running back Kenneth Walker II sidelined, Charbonnet made NFL news by running for 134 yards and two touchdowns and adding seven catches in a 30-18 win over Arizona.

Bet the Seattle Seahawks to Win Super Bowl 59 (+5000)
