NFC Wild Card Opening Odds Report: San Francisco 49ers at Dallas Cowboys
Fresh off a huge overtime win over the Los Angeles Rams in their regular-season finale, the San Francisco 49ers are in the Wild Card round of the playoffs and will visit the red-hot Dallas Cowboys at Jerry World on Sunday afternoon.
It’s been a weird season for the No. 6-seeded 49ers with all their injuries and quarterback inconsistencies, but San Francisco’s defense is still loaded with talent so this game should be far from a cakewalk for the Cowboys.
On the BetUS Sportsbook, third-seeded Dallas is favored by just three points based on the current NFL betting lines.

Underdogs Riding High
San Francisco’s situation on Sunday in Los Angeles was simple: Win and get in. All the 49ers had to do in order to make the playoffs was beat the rivals Rams and that’s what they did, scoring 14 third-quarter points to come back from a 17-3 halftime deficit. Robbie Gould kicked a go-ahead field goal in overtime before Ambry Thomas picked off Matthew Stafford to finish off the 27-24 win.
The win was San Francisco’s sixth straight against the Rams, which is nothing short of remarkable considering how good Los Angeles has been in contrast to the up-and-downs of the Niners. It turned out to be fortuitous for the 49ers to have the Rams on their schedule.
The 49ers won outright as three-point road underdogs. The over (46½ points) hit right at the end of regulation on Jimmy Garoppolo’s game-tying touchdown pass to Jauan Jennings.
Cowboys Offense Frighteningly Explosive
Having already clinched the NFC East, all Dallas had to play for on Saturday was a chance to move up to the third seed. So, the Cowboys played their starters and, as a result, crushed the resting Philadelphia Eagles 51-26 behind five touchdown passes from Dak Prescott and two receiving touchdowns each from Cedrick Wilson and Dalton Schultz.
Philadelphia, with Gardner Minshew starting for Jalen Hurts, kept things close for most of the first half, but Dallas’ red-hot offense took over and ran away with things. It was the Cowboys’ fifth win in six games as Mike McCarthy’s team is entering the playoffs having played really good football on both sides of the ball for awhile.
The Cowboys easily covered as six-point road favorites. They hit the over (46½ points) all by themselves.
Opening Line
On the broader betting markets, the Cowboys mostly opened as field-goal home favorites, giving a lot of respect to the 49ers, who have looked really good as of late. There hasn’t been much movement from that line and the three-point spread is painted across the market. If you’re betting online with the Niners, consider waiting to see if that number goes up.
As far as NFL picks go for the point total, it opened at mixed numbers between 49½ and 50½. As the dust settled, the higher number prevailed and the current total is 50½.
