  • Packers star QB Jordan Love could be in for an MVP-caliber season.
  • The race in the division, with the Lions and Bears ready for battle, has never been tighter.
  • How big of an impact will Josh Jacobs have on Green Bay’s offense?
  • BetUS Sportsbook has the Packers at +1800 to win Super Bowl LXI.

Last season, the Green Bay Packers trashed the Dallas Cowboys in the wild-card round of the playoffs and gave the San Francisco 49ers a run for their money in the divisional round. And if you think that was a one-season fluke, think again.

Understanding that the jump to contention needs work, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur, a favorite in our odds to win the Coach of the Year Award, has been hard at work finessing what could easily be the best version of this team since the Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams days.

So, what are some of the most intriguing storylines coming out of Packers camp this offseason? Let’s find out ahead.

Can Love Make a True Claim for MVP?

After a season in which Green Bay’s passer Jordan Love finally established himself as the team’s franchise passer, all signs point to his next goal being the MVP award in 2024. With his odds to win the NFL MVP award currently at +1400, tied for fifth in the rankings, Love’s numbers from last season speak volumes of why it might be time to buy into the Love narrative.

With 4,159 passing yards (7th in the NFL), 32 touchdowns (2nd in the NFL), A QB rating of 62.1 (9th in the league), and a 96.1 overall passer rating, Love has proven he can hang with the best of the best in the position, and now wants to go for the MVP.

Already being compared in the MVP conversation with other top-tier passers like Jalen Hurts, Lamar Jackson, and Dak Prescott, among others, this shows that for football experts, Love is already a top-10 QB in the league.

As long as Love can further improve his game-to-game consistency, deep ball accuracy, and decision-making skills, especially on third-down plays, show Love some love (pun intended) and keep him around as a solid NFL pick to win the MVP.

There’s Plenty To Like About This Packers Offense

When NFL news first announced Green Bay signing former Las Vegas Raiders star running back Josh Jacobs to a four-year, $48 million contract, it was clear that the Packers were all in for making this a playoff-contending squad once again.

But why, especially considering the league continues to move more and more towards pass-heavy offenses ruling the game? When you can add a player like Jacobs, considered one of the best RBs in the league, to an offense stacked with young, explosive talents in the wide receiver department, it makes perfect sense.

Jacobs could easily come into Green Bay’s offensive scheme and automatically boost the team’s chances in play-action passing games. With his strong, elite rushing skills to work in first and second down plays, this could open up the field more for Love to further improve in his deep ball game.

Add to that the chemistry that continues to build between Love and receivers Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, and Jayden Reid, a trio that could become one of the best in the league this coming season with their route-running skills and big play abilities, and there are enough reasons to like this Packers offense.

The Packers’ New Look Defense Needs to Shine Bright

Understanding this team needed a new look on defense was something LeFleur understood perfectly. To compete at the highest level for a shot at the NFC title, with Green Bay’s odds to win the NFC at +800, the team’s defense needed a slight but still demanding facelift. So what did LeFleur do? He went and got himself a new defensive coordinator.

With the addition of former Boston College head coach Jeff Hafley as the team’s new DC, Green Bay’s defense is expected to undergo a significant transitional phase, emphasizing the player’s versatility and adaptability.

Thankfully, with star players Jaire Alexander and a fully healed Rashan Gary ready to spearhead this defense into 2024, we could be looking at a Packers defense with a stronger pass rush game and even better secondary coverage and blocking schemes.

How Will the Competition in the NFC Play Out for Green Bay?

Ok, so we can either talk about divisional competition or conference competition. How about we do both?

When it comes to the NFC North, Green Bay is currently second in our current NFL odds to win the division, right behind the juggernaut Detroit Lions, with the Chicago Bears keeping a tight grip on third place.

So, what should the Packers be paying close attention to?

Two of the three remaining teams in the division, the Bears and Minnesota Vikings, drafted new franchise QBs in 2024, meaning that while both teams adjust to life with their new passers, this could perfectly well be the Packers’ chance to break away from the chase and stand toe to toe against the Lions.

Also, Green Bay must reinforce the idea that Lambeau Field is one of the toughest stadiums to play in. Between the weather conditions and fan base, the Packers usually go into every home game with a significant unspoken advantage. Now, it’s time to truly exploit that advantage, especially in intradivisional games.

When it comes to the NFC conference, if the Packers want to establish themselves as a genuine threat for the title, they need to come out swinging from the start. A win in their season-starting matchup in Brazil against the Philadelphia Eagles –for which our week 1 NFL odds are already out– could go a huge way for them.

Besides that, potential wins in their week seven home game against the Houston Texans, week 9 visit from the Lions, and back-to-back home games in weeks 12 and 13 against the 49ers and Miami Dolphins could make or break Green Bay’s season.
