Ravens Revamp Offense
The evolution of the Ravens’ offense will have a major impact on Jackson’s NFL betting odds. After heavily relying on the run game and Jackson’s legs for several seasons, Baltimore made big moves to upgrade its passing attack. Jackson finally has a good group of wide receivers with the additions of Odell Beckham Jr. in free agency and first-round draft pick Zay Flowers. Rashod Bateman also returns from injury after several promising games last season.
Beckham, Flowers and Bateman appear in notable NFL lines. Beckham (+4000) and Bateman (+4000) are listed as longshot options to win Comeback Player of the Year. Flowers has the sixth-shortest odds to win Offensive Rookie of the Year (+1600).
Along with an improved wide receiver corps, the Ravens brought in a new offensive coordinator, Todd Monken. He was one of the best play-callers in college football for several seasons and was an instrumental piece in the Georgia Bulldogs’ back-to-back national championships. Monken was the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ offensive coordinator from 2016-18 and the Cleveland Browns’ in 2019.
The run game will remain a prominent force for Baltimore, but Monken will bring new wrinkles to the passing game. Throughout his career, his offenses have stretched opposing teams from sideline to sideline and hunted for big shots down the field. In addition, the Ravens’ tempo could pick up, as Monken is known to implement some no-huddle. He also creates mismatches for tight ends, meaning Mark Andrews and Isaiah Likely could be in store for big seasons.
Overall, Monken is an excellent fit that addresses Baltmore’s need for an improved passing game. Plus, it has the tools for Monken to thrive, like a strong tight end room, fast receivers, and a mobile QB. This was one of the best hires of the offseason. It could help the Ravens reach the ultimate goal of a Super Bowl. The NFL’s latest lines have Baltimore at +2000 to win its third Lombardi Trophy.
How does this impact your NFL picks for Jackson’s specials? We could see the Ravens look to put less on Jackson, which would mean fewer rushing attempts. Check out Monken discussing this topic:
Todd Monken was asked if Lamar Jackson will run less:
“Uuuuh …”
He said with more weapons around Lamar, the less he’ll need to shoulder that burden.
“But, he has a unique trait. You can’t take that completely out of his toolbox bc it’s a huge weapon for him and for us.” pic.twitter.com/f4bbbMCCAT

Big Season for Jackson’s Arm?
Most signs point to Baltimore looking to limit Jackson’s carries. He has dealt with injuries over the last two seasons. Monken should improve the passing game and the Ravens invested in upgrading their skill position players.
With that said, the under for 872½ rushing yards (-120) and the over for 3,650½ passing yards (-120) are promising NFL predictions, as Jackson totaled 767 and 764 rushing yards in the last two seasons. Baltimore’s running backs should finally be healthy as well. J.K. Dobbins is creating buzz after a strong end to last season. Flowers could be utilized in the run game too. All of this points to fewer rushing yards for Jackson.
Don’t expect Jackson to rarely carry the ball though. He could be the best rushing quarterback of all time. Of course, the Ravens will still use this. Jackson will continue to play-make, turning nothing into something.
Monken also has a history of utilizing dual-threat signal-callers on third downs and in the red zone. For example, Georgia’s Stetson Bennett totaled 10 rushing touchdowns last season. This season could be about picking the correct situations for Jackson’s legs instead of driving his durability into the ground. Therefore, the over on 6½ rushing touchdowns (-120) is a strong online gambling choice.
After revamping its offense, Baltimore will be one of the most interesting teams to watch in the 2023 season. It could be a career year for Jackson’s arm. Will it lead the Ravens to the over for their projected win total of 10?
