NFL Week 3 Power Rankings: Dolphins Dynamic, Bengals Losing Stripes

Another exciting NFL weekend is in the books. There were improbable comebacks, dramatic finishes, and surprising lopsided results. Week 2 is always one of the NFL’s most interesting weeks as many questions are answered. We always come out of the opening weekend wondering who’s legit and who’s not. Now, we have a better idea. Let’s get to it and stay tuned to the NFL picks.

Without further ado, here are Week 3’s NFL Power Rankings.

Last Week: 32

What is Arthur Smith’s grand plan for the offense? Tight end Kyle Pitts is the best player on the Atlanta Falcons roster, yet Smith refuses to feed him the ball. Through two games, Pitts has four receptions for 38 yards. Marcus Mariota’s mediocrity continues. Drake London had another nice performance (rookie of year odds?), and the run defense was far better. Atlanta managed to come back late against the Los Angeles Rams, but the negatives outweigh the positives.

31. Panthers

Last Week: 28

The Carolina Panther’s offense is an absolute disaster. Baker Mayfield was no better, and the offensive line is searching for consistency. Christian McCaffrey had over 120 scrimmage yards, but the offense lacks an identity. After taking a 13-6 lead over the New York Giants, the Panthers were outscored 13-3 to finish the game. Carolina has rarely shown the ability to close games under Matt Rhule. If this lack of offense continues, the Panthers will be lucky to win more than a handful of games.

30. Texans

Last Week: 30

Once again, the Houston Texans surprised many. They battled with the Denver Broncos until late in the fourth. However, problems are still present. Davis Mills did not play well and rookie cornerback Derek Stingley was torched by Denver’s Courtland Sutton. Houston made the wise decision of giving rookie running back Dameon Pierce the bulk of its carries this week. There’s plenty of room for improvement, but the Texans have been slightly better than expected.

29. Jets

Last Week: 31

Following a miracle comeback win over Cleveland, the New York Jets dodge another week of criticism. The defense had its problems as the secondary struggled against an underwhelming passing attack. However, Joe Flacco saved the day. Who would have expected that in 2022? Flacco totaled over 300 passing yards, and rookie Garrett Wilson had 102 receiving yards along with two touchdowns. Can Flacco steady the ship for another week as Zach Wilson’s return inches closer?

  • +20000 Super Bowl odds

28. Seahawks

Last Week: 27

Geno Smith looked human in Week 2. The offense was dreadful against the San Francisco 49ers. The Seattle Seahawks lacked explosive plays and ran the ball only 14 times. The offensive line was nowhere close to its solid performance in Week 1. It allowed two sacks and nine QB hits. In addition, the defense was torched on the ground. None of these struggles were surprising. Week 1 looks like an anomaly.

  • +30000 Super Bowl odds

27. Bears

Last Week: 26

The Chicago Bears were riding high after defeating the San Francisco 49ers. However, evident issues emerged this week against Green Bay. Who is Justin Fields throwing to? Darnell Mooney and Cole Kmet had to emerge this season, but both have done close to nothing. The run game can be successful as David Montgomery put up 122 rushing yards. On defense, the Bears could not tackle. Chicago is a work in progress. Fields’ targets must step up.

  • +15000 Super Bowl odds

26. Jaguars

Last Week: 29

Did Trevor Lawrence finally emerge? He was exceptional in Week 2, going 25 of 30 with 235 yards and a 121.5 passer rating. Christian Kirk had another big game as he scored two touchdowns. Travis Etienne is still finding his footing and James Robinson is the clear lead running back thus far. While rookie Travon Walker came back to earth, edge rusher Josh Allen made a big impact with two sacks. The Jacksonville Jaguars will keep improving if Lawrence’s breakout has truly arrived.

  • +10000 Super Bowl odds

25. Commanders

Last Week: 23

The passing offense has been surprising thus far. Carson Wentz had 337 passing yards and three touchdowns. The wide receiver trio of Terry McLaurin, Curtis Samuel, and Jahan Dotson has been formidable. Ultimately, the Washington Commanders got off to a horrible start as they trailed 22-0. The deficit was too much and the Detroit Lions lit the secondary up. After the 36-27 loss, Washington sits at 1-1. The injury of starting center Chase Roullier presents a new challenge.

  • +8000 Super Bowl odds

24. Colts

Last Week: 15

The Indianapolis Colts were heavy favorites to win the AFC South, according to the NFL predictions. After a terrible 24-0 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, Indy looks nowhere close to a playoff team. Through two games, it’s becoming clear Matt Ryan is not an upgrade. He had three interceptions and an abysmal 34.0 passer rating. Jonathan Taylor was not given near enough touches, adding insult to injury. The defense desperately misses All-Pro linebacker, Shaquille Leonard.

  • +4000 Super Bowl odds

23. Browns

Last Week: 20

Many expected the defense to carry the Cleveland Browns. However, that’s in doubt after an embarrassing collapse against the New York Jets. Quarterback Jacoby Brissett played well and the run game was effective. After numerous breakdowns in the secondary, the Browns blew a 30-17 lead with 1:55 on the clock. On special teams, Cade York missed an extra point late, and Cleveland failed to recover an onside kick. The Browns cannot afford to waste good offensive showings.

  • +6000 Super Bowl odds

22. Titans

Last Week: 22

On Monday night, the Tennessee Titans were dominated in every sense. Tennessee needed a huge night from Derrick Henry. Instead, he averaged 1.9 yards per carry. The pass rush rarely generated pressure and the secondary could not stop the dangerous Buffalo Bills’ passing attack. Ryan Tannehill was 11 of 20 with 117 passing yards and two interceptions. The Titans had no chance to come back, once trailing by multiple scores. The AFC South is easily the league’s weakest division. Yet, Tennessee doesn’t even look capable of winning it as it holds +200 odds.

21. Lions

Last Week: 25

The Detroit Lions’ offense had another big day with over 400 yards and 36 points. On a bad ankle, D’Andre Swift had 87 yards on seven touches. Second-year receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown shined with 116 receiving yards, 68 rushing yards and two touchdowns. The Lions’ defense gave up some big plays, but rookie Aidan Hutchinson recorded three sacks. Detroit’s defense will have issues, but it showed improvement in Week 2.

  • +10000 Super Bowl odds

20. Giants

Last Week: 24

The New York Giants are 2-0 for the first time since 2016. This time, the defense deserves credit. Daniel Jones was mediocre and Saquon Barkley could not repeat his stunning Week 1 showing. But the defense had their backs. The unit forced two turnovers and allowed only 129 passing yards. The hype is growing in New York.

  • +6600 Super Bowl odds

19. Steelers

Last Week: 18

With T.J. Watt out, a drop-off on defense was expected. However, zero sacks and three QB hits will not get done. The Pittsburgh Steelers have plenty of talent on the defensive line, but the pass rush has to be better. In addition, the offensive woes continued. Fans are already calling for rookie Kenny Pickett to start.

  • +6000 Super Bowl odds

18. Patriots

Last Week: 19

After a terrible offensive showing in Week 1, the New England Patriots totaled nearly 400 yards. Mac Jones was improved compared to his dreadful season-opening performance, but he made more head-scratching decisions. The offensive line played much better as it paved the way for 124 rushing yards on four yards per carry. The defense suffered several injuries, including standout safety Kyle Dugger. New England has momentum following a 17-14 win.

17. Cowboys

Last Week: 21

Can a defensive player carry a team in this day and age? Micah Parsons certainly did that against the Cincinnati Bengals. Everything was thrown Parsons’ way. From double-teams with a chip block to Cincinnati running plays away from him. None of it mattered. Parsons dominated from start to finish. In addition, backup QB Cooper Rush played well and was outstanding on the game-winning drive. Following a 20-17 win over the Bengals, the Dallas Cowboys have hope.

  • +4000 Super Bowl odds

16. Saints

Last Week: 17

The defense was much better in Week 2, giving the Tampa Bay Buccaneers fits. The recipe for success is clear: great defense and limited turnovers. Jameis Winston could not do that against Tampa Bay as he threw three interceptions. Michael Thomas played well and Chris Olave’s 80 receiving yards made a big impact. Once Alvin Kamara returns, New Orleans’ offense will have a strong supporting cast. Winston must take care of the ball.

  • +3300 Super Bowl odds

15. Cardinals

Last Week: 16

It looked like the Arizona Cardinals would be dominated once again. Arizona fought back this time, forcing overtime after trailing 20-0 at halftime. Kyler Murray pulled out all of the heroics, finishing with 277 passing yards. Plus, the defense held the Las Vegas Raiders to three points in the second half. The offensive line was much better in Week 2, which would dramatically help Murray going forward. Byron Murphy’s 59-yard fumble return was the game-winner in a thrilling 29-23 win.

  • +5000 Super Bowl odds

14. Raiders

Last Week: 13

The Las Vegas Raiders led Arizona 23-7 entering the fourth quarter. Some fans were even popping champagne in the third quarter, celebrating a “locked” victory. The defense quickly folded as Vegas was outscored 16-0 in the fourth. In overtime, the Raiders lost after Hunter Renfrow’s crucial fumble. Derek Carr’s play was still shaky, and the pass rush continues to underachieve. Las Vegas is off to a rough 0-2 start.

13. Broncos

Last Week: 10

Nathaniel Hackett is hearing loads of criticism. His first head coaching job is off to a terrible start, including bad decision-making and play-calling. The Denver Broncos have scored only nine points in five goal-to-go situations. This is horrible execution across the board. This week, Denver had two delay-of-game penalties on field goal attempts. One put them out of field goal range, resulting in a punt. The Broncos survived against the Houston Texans (16-9), but they have major coaching issues. Injuries to Pat Surtain and Jerry Jeudy add to the concern.

  • +2500 Super Bowl odds

12. Vikings

Last Week: 12

Primetime Kirk Cousins strikes again. After the 24-7 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, he is now 2-10 in Monday night games. The Minnesota Vikings quickly fell behind, meaning they had to throw often. Cousins was clearly not up for the task, throwing three interceptions, and it could have been more. Dalvin Cook got only six rushing attempts and Justin Jefferson was nearly erased by Darius Slay. The defense was consistently burnt by Philly’s RPOs. The Vikings have a talented offense, but Cousins is still a problem.

  • +2200 Super Bowl odds

11. Bengals

Last Week: 6

Is it time to label the Cincinnati Bengals’ season as a Super Bowl hangover? They started the year with two mediocre opponents and lost to both. Against the injury-riddled Dallas Cowboys, the Bengals’ offensive line was horrible. This makes consecutive games where Cincinnati allowed six or more sacks. The defense has played well, but the O-line and questionable play-calling continue to hinder a talented offense.

  • +2500 Super Bowl odds

10. 49ers

Last Week: 11

After Trey Lance sustained a season-ending ankle injury, Jimmy Garoppolo stepped into the starting role once again. Now, the San Francisco 49ers are virtually the same team as last season. Maybe right now the 49ers will be better with Garoppolo, but Lance had the chance to elevate San Francisco to greater heights. After dominating the Seattle Seahawks 27-7, the 49ers are still of playoff quality.

  • +1600 Super Bowl odds

9. Ravens

Last Week: 7

The Baltimore Ravens have major issues on defense. The secondary consistently broke down against the Miami Dolphins, leaving Tyreek Hill wide open down the field in several crucial moments. Baltimore allowed 380 yards in Week 1 and 547 yards in Week 2. Lamar Jackson’s outstanding performance was wasted thanks to the Ravens’ defense. Also, it appears Rashod Bateman’s breakout is here. The offense will improve once J.K. Dobbins returns, but the defense must figure things out.

  • +1800 Super Bowl odds

8. Dolphins

Last Week: 14

How about that receiving duo? Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle both posted over 170 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Plus, Tua Tagovailoa had the best game of his career with 469 passing yards and six touchdowns. Mike McDaniels has done a terrific job thus far. The defense comes off a poor showing, but the league is buzzing after the Miami Dolphins’ epic 21-point comeback victory (42-38) in Baltimore.

  • +2000 Super Bowl odds

7. Packers

Last Week: 8

The defense did its job this week. If the Green Bay Packers can keep games at a slow pace, they have a chance against anybody. This exact formula was on display against the Chicago Bears. Led by Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon, the run game dominated and Aaron Rodgers made plays when needed. The Packers have a completely different identity this season. They will look to dominate the time of possession battle and punish teams in the trenches.

  • +1400 Super Bowl odds

6. Rams

Last Week: 5

The Los Angeles Rams won (31-27) an ugly one against the Atlanta Falcons. With two interceptions, Matthew Stafford’s turnover woes continue. Cooper Kupp did the usual, posting 108 receiving yards and two touchdowns. The Rams led 31-10 early in the fourth, then sloppy play ensued. Los Angeles must clean up mistakes.

5. Eagles

Last Week: 9

If Jalen Hurts continues this level of play, the Philadelphia Eagles will be contenders in the NFC. He put on an absolute clinic in the first half and finished with 333 passing yards, 57 rushing yards, and three touchdowns. In the dominant 24-7 win over the Minnesota Vikings, Hurts was making some of the best throws of his career. Furthermore, Philadelphia’s secondary made play after play. Darius Slay had two interceptions as he held Justin Jefferson in check.

  • +1100 Super Bowl odds

4. Buccaneers

Last Week: 3

The New Orleans Saints have the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ number. They have a way of getting under Tampa’s skin. We certainly saw that as Mike Evans was thrown out and suspended one game after leveling Marshon Lattimore; these two truly dislike each other. The Bucs’ defense forced five turnovers, including a 68-yard pick-six from Mike Edwards. Tampa Bay’s offense has work to do, but the defense is playing at a high level.

  • +700 Super Bowl odds

3. Chargers

Last Week: 4

While the Los Angeles Chargers lost, they impressed in a hostile environment. For most of the game, the defense held strong. Derwin James and Asante Samuel Jr. turned in big performances, but the front seven was up and down. Ultimately, the Chargers were dominated in the fourth quarter as Justin Herbert made a few mistakes and dealt with a rib injury late. Los Angeles could not seal the game but also displayed massive potential.

  • +1400 Super Bowl odds

2. Chiefs

Last Week: 2

Great teams find ways to win. Against the Los Angeles Chargers, the Kansas City Chiefs were fortunate to be trailing by only seven points at halftime. The Chiefs were even outgained by over 80 yards and lost the time of possession battle. Thanks to a 20-0 run in the second half, the Chiefs won 27-24. Patrick Mahomes comes off a solid performance as the defense works through kinks. Following starting linebacker Willie Gay’s four-game suspension, the defense has another hurdle to clear.

  • +700 Super Bowl odds

1. Bills

Last Week: 1

Remember when some said the Buffalo Bills had a trap game? So much for that. The Bills didn’t miss one step as they demolished the Tennessee Titans 41-7. Once again, everything was clicking. The highlight of the night was Josh Allen’s connection to Stefon Diggs, who finished with 148 receiving yards and three touchdowns. The defense forced four turnovers, which makes seven forced turnovers in two games. So far, the Bills look destined for a Super Bowl, but easier said than done.
