  • The New York Jets (+10½) were the biggest underdogs to win and cover in a 20-17 win over the Buffalo Bills.

Double Fumble in Atlanta

If awards were being handed out for the worst bad beat of the week, the double-fumble in Atlanta would be a top contender for the prize. Not even the wildest of imaginations could have foretold each team would fumble the ball on the same play – and in the dying minutes of the game, no less.

The game was tied 17-17 and the Chargers were marching down the field. On third-and-4 at the Falcons’ 22 with less than a minute on the clock, Austin Ekeler fumbled the ball. Defensive tackle Ta’Quon Graham scooped it up and began to run it back, but 20 yards into his inspired sprint, he too fumbled the ball. (True Story!) Guard Matt Feller recovered the ball for Los Angeles at the Falcons’ 43, all while a precious 34 seconds remained.

The long and short of it: Thanks to the double-fumble, the Chargers got the ball back and after a couple of quick plays, set up kicker Cameron Dicker for the game-winning field goal on the final play to take the 20-17 victory.

Chargers side bettors couldn’t believe their luck as their side won and covered as the -2½ closing road favorite. But Falcons’ backers, those who backed Atlanta for the upset (+120 on the moneyline), were left wanting.

Vintage Tom Brady Resurrects Tampa Bay

So close, yet so far away. With the Los Angeles Rams leading for the better part of the game, their backers appeared to be closing in on a triumphant upset… until they weren’t.

Time after time we’ve seen Tom Brady doing his Tom Brady thing, rallying his side from behind to steal a win that they had no business taking. It really shouldn’t surprise anyone, though it doesn’t make it any less devastating.

Down 13-9 and on their own 40-yard line with just 44 seconds left in the game, Brady reeled off four passes in 28 seconds to drive the Buccaneers all the way to the LA 7. Then, with just 16 seconds to go, a pass-interference penalty on the Rams nudged the Bucs to the LA 1. With Brady literally on the doorstep of the goal line, he easily found Cade Otton for the game-winning touchdown.

To say Rams bettors were left reeling is an understatement.

Mahomes Magic Denies Titans

Tennessee Titans backers were minutes away from cashing in on the unthinkable road upset … until they weren’t.

With Ryan Tannehill missing a second consecutive game, the Titans started rookie Malik Willis against the Kansas City Chiefs. Not surprisingly, they closed as the considerable +550 road underdogs on the moneyline all while catching +14 points against the spread.

Thanks to Mike Vrabel’s dominant defense, the Titans were very much in this game – more so than the NFL odds predicted they would be. In the fourth quarter, with barely seven minutes left on the clock, the Titans were up 17-9. They appeared to have an answer for everything Mahomes and the Chiefs’ offense threw at them.

Then, as he often does, Mahomes flipped the script with some creativity and otherworldly magic that saw the Chiefs score a touchdown to close the gap to 17-15 with just over two minutes left. Of course, the Chiefs went for the two-point conversion to tie the game. From here, things went downhill for the Titans in a hurry.

They first shot themselves in the foot – and subsequently, their backers too – by committing a bucketload of unnecessary penalties that gave the Chiefs multiple shots at the two-point conversion. They eventually got it done to send the game into overtime. And with the momentum firmly with the Chiefs, they took the 20-17 lead in overtime and held on to the win.

On the bright side, Titans side bettors still got the cover.
