Patriots & Vikings Fans Should Prepare for Disappointment With NFL Schedule

The NFL schedule has been released which is good news for fans, but not necessarily all teams. As the NFL odds indicate, some teams could struggle out of the gate.

Not only is Bill Belichick no longer around to do the walk of shame in the New England area, but the Patriots face a loaded first month of the schedule.

Drake Maye selected by the New England Patriots

To make matters more challenging, the Pats could be starting a rookie quarterback in Drake Maye.

Gone is Kirk Cousins and the Vikings most definitely do not like that in addition to their brutal schedule. It remains a mystery whether rookie J.J. McCarthy will be able to win the QB1 job from Sam Darnold. Whoever makes their Minnesota debut will have no time to ease into the season.

Finally, Kyler Murray may need more than Marvin Harrison Jr. to survive the Cardinals’ September stretch. Arizona could once again find themselves at the bottom of the NFC West schedule unless the team exceeds expectations.

Let’s dive into why the Patriots, Vikings, and Cardinals could get off to a slow start.

Here’s a look at some NFL Odds to consider!

Drake Maye Due for a ‘Welcome to the NFL’ Moment

Consider these first four games for the Patriots: vs Bengals, vs Seahawks, at Jets, and at 49ers. So, three of their first four games are on the road, all against teams who have the potential to make the NFL playoffs.

Can’t wait to see Robert Kraft make that sequel documentary to “The Dynasty” about how new head coach Jerod Mayo ruined the franchise. Now, maybe you are thinking things will get easier for New England after the first month.

You would be mistaken as the Patriots take on the Dolphins, Texans, Jaguars, and Jets over the next four games. I am bullish on Maye’s outlook as an NFL quarterback, but Mayo did not sound optimistic when describing the rookie’s outlook in his rookie season.

He has a lot to work on. A lot to work on,” Mayo said during rookie minicamp, per ESPN’s Mike Reiss. “But I have no doubt that he will put the time in. He was here all night trying to get on the same page as everyone else.

What Maye can’t work on is the Patriots’ schedule. Maye might be looking like that other Drake after his rap battle with Kendrick Lamar.

J.J. McCarthy or Sam Darnold in for Brutal September, October

Even if the Vikings faced a few cupcakes to start the season, the lack of certainty at quarterback would be concerning. Minnesota is using the old “we could sit McCarthy during his first season” approach.

We all know how this ends as Minnesota used a high draft pick on McCarthy, while Darnold signed a one-year deal. McCarthy will be starting sooner rather than later, but it remains to be seen if that will happen in Week 1.

The Vikings do have a winnable season opener against the Giants. Things get much tougher with this stretch of games: vs 49ers, vs Texans, at Packers, vs Jets (London), bye, vs Lions, at Rams.

Five of those six teams made the postseason last season. All six franchises should be viewed as potential playoff teams for 2024. To quote Minneapolis resident Anthony Edwards, “bring ya a**,” Vikings.

Kyler Murray’s Seat With the Cardinals About to Get Hotter

Candidly, I was already finding it hard to be optimistic about the Cardinals. Then I took a look at Arizona’s schedule and felt even worse.

Looking at the first eight weeks, there is a good chance the Cardinals are only favored in one game to start the season. The Cardinals open the season on the road against the Bills, then host the Rams, Lions, and Commanders.

That Washington matchup in Week 4 may be a must-win contest because things continue to remain hard from there. Arizona then goes on the road for back-to-back games against the Niners and Packers.

Jim Harbaugh’s Chargers come to town for a Monday Night Football showdown in Week 7. The Cardinals travel to Miami to face the Dolphins in Week 8.

Something tells me the pressure is going to be on Murray sooner rather than later. There is a reason the Cardinals sit at +300 to make the playoffs in our NFL betting odds.
