Raiders’ Nerve-Racking Wait: Will Garoppolo Be Ready?

Las Vegas Keeping Fingers Crossed

After finishing 6-11 in the 2022 season, the Las Vegas Raiders decided to enter a new era. They released Derek Carr, who was their starting quarterback since 2014. Las Vegas signed one of the best QBs available, Jimmy Garoppolo, to a three-year, $72.75 million contract.

After breaking his foot in Week 13 of the 2022 season, Garoppolo missed eight consecutive games, including three in the postseason with the 49ers. We discovered about two months ago that Garoppolo failed his physical when signing with the Raiders in March.

Suddenly, this has become a stressful offseason for Las Vegas. If Garoppolo is not ready for the 2023 season, the Raiders could be doomed. This would also have a massive impact on NFL predictions, which gives us more reason to stay up to date on Garoppolo. What are the latest updates? Will he be ready for the 2023 season?

2023 Season Ill-Fated?

Las Vegas does not have high expectations for the upcoming season, even with Garoppolo at the helm. According to NFL lines, the Raiders have a projected win total of seven and are priced at +350 to make the playoffs. The Kansas City Chiefs will likely rule the AFC West once again, and earning a wild card spot in the loaded AFC will be a tall task.

Garoppolo is not a superstar quarterback. He will not completely flip the Las Vegas franchise, making it a contender. NFL executives, coaches, and scouts voted on the top 10 quarterbacks for the 2023 season. Garoppolo received no votes, signifying he is among the bottom half of starting signal-callers.

However, the Raiders lack quality depth at quarterback. Brian Hoyer, who is 37, or fourth-round rookie Aidan O’Connell would likely compete for the starting spot. Las Vegas would not have many options in free agency either. Carson Wentz and Matt Ryan are the top QBs available.

Tom Brady rumors also started after news broke of Garoppolo’s failed physical. Brady is not going to sign with the Raiders. There’s no point in entertaining it.

If Garoppolo is not healthy, Las Vegas’ season could be over before it even starts. Fading the Raiders in NFL picks would become perhaps the most popular choice in online gambling.

Raiders Stuck In Waiting Game

Las Vegas fans should not hit the panic button yet. Why would the Raiders sign Garoppolo when they knew about the foot injury? Why would Vegas make no aggressive moves for a quality backup after Garoppolo failed his physical?

Former Raiders executive Michael Lombardi stated on the “Pat McAfee Show,” “They knew he would be ready for training camp, but he wasn’t going to be in the offseason program. This was decided back in April and so, therefore, they deferred the signing bonus until he can pass the physical, which he will and I think he’s on track to do that.”

This is a waiting game. All we can do is follow the updates and adjust sport bets accordingly. Fading the Raiders still seems like the wise pick. They have more problems than Garoppolo’s health. Following a career-best season, running back Josh Jacobs could sit out of the 2023 season after failing to agree on a long-term extension with Las Vegas.

There is plenty of negative news swirling around the Raiders ahead of the 2023 season. Las Vegas is keeping its fingers crossed, hoping for positive news on Garoppolo in the upcoming weeks.
