Roger Goodell Offers Update on Tom Brady’s Raiders Ownership Stake

The NFL Commissioner Assures They Are Making Progress on Tom Brady’s Raiders Purchase

Will the Owners Vote in Favor of Brady?

It’s been almost a year since we found out the NFL news that Tom Brady was going to buy an ownership stake in the Las Vegas Raiders, however, there have been a number of issues to arise in that time span. One of the biggest issues is Tom Brady’s net worth.

He’s only worth $300 million, which is certainly no small amount but it’s not enough when trying to buy a significant stake in an NFL team. The Raiders are worth $6.2 billion, according to Forbes, and Brady is looking for a 10% stake in the team. That would mean that he’d have to pay $620 million for 10%. Raiders owner Mark Davis wants to give the legendary quarterback a discount but owners around the NFL aren’t willing to approve too steep of a discount.

The NFL owners’ meetings are happening right now in Orlando but Brady’s ownership in the Raiders isn’t going to be voted on yet, which begs the question: what’s left that needs to happen? NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell offered some insight.

Roger Goodell’s Update on Tom Brady’s Ownership

Since Tom Brady’s retirement, there have been eyes on him waiting to see what he’ll do next. He’s going to do NFL commentary for FOX Sports and his ownership in the Raiders was supposed to be how he stayed close to the game.

NFL owners seem apprehensive about letting him into the exclusive circle but according to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, there hasn’t been a delay in voting on Brady

“I wouldn’t say it’s a delay,” Goodell said Tuesday from the NFL’s annual league meetings. “We go through a very thorough process … We’re just going through our process. We’ve been in touch with their side. I think it’s been making progress.”

It appears there’s still some work to do regarding Brady and it’s unclear what the sticking point is now. However, the fact that it continues to be a topic means that it’ll likely happen at some point.
