Head-to-Head
Detroit won three straight from 2014-2016, but New Orleans recorded an emphatic 52-38 road win over the Lions the last time they met on Oct. 15, 2017. The Saints might be struggling coming into this matchup, but New Orleans has gone 6-2 ATS in its last 8 meetings against Detroit. Apparently, these two like to get involved in high-scoring affairs with the Over going 4-1 in the last 5 meetings.

After beating Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 34-23 in Week 1, the Saints fell on the road to the Las Vegas Raiders 34-24 in Week 2. New Orleans came back home for last week’s matchup against the Green Bay Packers but came up short in their 37-30 home loss against the Packers. Brees passed for three touchdowns in the loss and Alvin Kamara had 197 yards of offense in the loss. Defensively, the Saints allowed Aaron Rodgers to throw three TD passes and they allowed young wide receiver Allen Lazard to have a career game.
M.I.A.
Third-year wide receiver Tre’quan Smith is being given every opportunity to succeed but the results have been mixed at best. Smith has a modest 10 catches for 132 yards and no touchdowns. After catching one ball for four yards in Week 1, Smith had five catches for 86 yards in Week 2. Unfortunately, he took a step backward last week by catching four passes for a modest 42 yards. I guess Michael Thomas had better hurry back.
Bunker Hill!
While veteran tight end Josh Hill has recorded six straight seasons of at least 16 catches, including a career-high 25 receptions last season, but you’d never know it so far. Hill has a measly one catch for 16 yards in three games. Hill needs to come out of the bunker and fast!

After losing its opener 27-23 at home against the Chicago Bears, Detroit was smacked around in a humbling 42-21 road loss at Green Bay. The Lions picked up their first win last weekend by upsetting Kyler Murray and the blossoming Arizona Cardinals 26-23 to cash in as a 4.5-point road dog. Stafford passed for 270 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions while Detroit’s defense harassed Murray into three interceptions.
“Our defense played outstanding, getting three turnovers for us. We should have scored 40,” Stafford said.
Stafford led Detroit to get into position for Matt Prater’s game-winning field goal as time expired. The kick was Prater’s 15th career game-winning boot with less than two minutes to play in the fourth quarter or overtime.
“I’m happy for him. He’s as clutch as they get,” Stafford said. “He loves that moment. That moment has Matt Prater written all over it.”
A Star In the Making?
Tight end TJ Hockenson has at least four catches in every game and 13 receptions overall after recording just 32 last season. The eighth overall pick in last year’s NFL Draft has 171 receiving yards and one touchdown and we could be starting to see the former Iowa star blossoming.
The Ageless One
Ageless future Hall of Famer Adrian Peterson apparently isn’t done yet as he holds off, both, first-round draft pick D’Andre Swift and veteran Kerryon Johnson for the starting running back spot in Detroit.
Petersen has rushed for at least 75 yards in two of Detroit’s first three games and has a solid, 209 yards heading into Week 4. Petersen also has four catches for 31 yards and while he doesn’t have a touchdown yet, I think he will find the end zone in this matchup.
In four career games against New Orleans, Petersen has rushed for a modest 185 yards on 54 carries with six receptions for 59 yards. Amazingly, Petersen has never scored a single touchdown against the Saints in his future Hall of Fame career.
