I wonder what it’s like to be a fan of a team with an established QB. As a diehard Jets fan that’s a scenario, I haven’t lived through in a long time. From the looks of it though, it seems as if the Jets will not be the only team hitting the market to find a new franchise passer for next season.
Teams like the Texans, Colts, Raiders, Saints, Panthers, and Commanders will all be looking at either the 2023 draft or the free-agent market to try and find a new QB.
Be it because of a lack of trust in their current options, or wanting to have a fresh start with someone new, it feels as if almost half of the teams in the league will be taking out their checkbooks.
So where do teams in the league stand when it comes to their QB department? Who’s safe for next season and who will be hitting the market for new answers?
Let’s check the latest NFL picks, stats, injury reports, and NFL predictions. We’ve plenty of NFL expert picks for you to consider.
All Good in the Neighborhood
If I were the owner of an NFL franchise, this is where I would want my team to be. Teams like the Bills, Chiefs, Ravens, Chargers, Bengals, and Jaguars in the AFC, and the Eagles and Bears in the NFC should have nothing to worry about when it comes to their passing game.
All of these teams have something in common, which also happens to be something that all teams in the league should strive for, especially with how football has changed in recent times. They all have young, explosive, and dynamic QBs that are just as good at passing the ball as they are running with it.
Guys like Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes are already being the standard of excellence when it comes to passers. Meanwhile, Lamar Jackson, Justin Herbert, Joe Burrow, Trevor Lawrence, Jalen Hurts, and Justin Fields are quickly cementing their status, offering teams the chance to breathe a sigh of relief and worry about other endeavors.
Yes, putting Jackson and the Ravens on that list might be a gamble. But come on, even with the Ravens failing at showing Jackson some much-deserved love, both parties should be able to come to an agreement and move forward in peace.
Can Do with What They Have

Here’s where the game starts to get a bit tricky. There are teams in the league that could benefit from having a chance in their QB position, but at the same time, don’t really need it. Take the Patriots for example. Could they benefit from having a seasoned veteran, like Jimmy Garoppolo for example come in to give Mac Jones a run for the starting QB gig? Sure. Do they need it though? No, they don’t.
Jones is not the best prospect for the team, that’s a given, but with the right guidance and by surrounding him with stronger weapons on offense, he could make it work for the Pats.
How about the Lions, Giants, Dolphins, and Broncos? Yes, even the Broncos. All of these teams look pretty comfortable with their passers. Jared Goff, Daniel Jones, and Tua Tagovailoa have all earned the chance to start another season for their respective squads. And Russell Wilson? Well, with the money the Broncos ponied up for him, plus a new head coach, he deserves another chance.
It Wouldn’t Hurt to Start Looking

The Packers, Buccaneers, and Rams take the cake here. Why? Because even if they have some of the game’s most influential names leading their offenses, like Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, and Matthew Stafford, they are not getting any younger. I’ll give Rodgers and Stafford the benefit of the doubt here, but Brady?
It’s apparent that Tampa stands out as the squad that needs to look into finding a new QB sooner rather than later. Even if Brady is the best QB in the history of the game, that doesn’t mean he can play forever. He shouldn’t have come back for another season, even if he has managed to lead the Bucs once again into the playoffs.
Will he be back for 2023? Who knows. Should he come back for 2023? Honestly, no. It’s time for him to ride into the horizon and live his life as the NFL’s GOAT.
Please, Please Get Somebody New

Aside from the Jets, who clearly need to find somebody new in the free-agency market, a few more teams are in dire need of finding a new passer. Be it through the draft or by bringing in somebody from another team, it’s gone time for said teams.
Take the Raiders for example. By benching Derek Carr for the remainder of the season, Las Vegas showed it is ready to move on and find somebody new. What could the best course of action be? Finding somebody in the draft that coach Josh McDaniels can groom, that is, of course, considering that McDaniels keeps his job.
The Colts, Texans, Saints, Panthers, and Commanders stand as the other teams needing to turn the page. If you take Indianapolis, Washington, and New Orleans, you have three teams that have enough talent to be able to turn around and take off with the right QB. Carolina and Houston, well, they need a lot more work.
And Then There’s San Francisco
I think we can all agree on the fact that Jimmy G’s tenure with the 49ers is over, right? Sure, he came through enormously when Trey Lance was sidelined for the season with an injury and did very well too. But in the back of everyone’s minds, it’s a given that Garoppolo’s time as a Niner was up.
Now though, with Brock Purdy stepping up and showing everyone how to become the most relevant “Mr. Irrelevant” player, and with Trey Lance coming back next season, who do the Niners ride within 2023?
On the one hand, there’s no denying that Purdy is a stud. He went from not knowing if he would get a chance to play this season, seeing a couple of snaps here and there, to leading the Niners to five straight wins, the first coming in to play for an injured Garoppolo and the next four as the team’s starter.
If Purdy continues leading San Francisco’s offense in such fashion, especially with the playoffs coming up and San Francisco slowly becoming the team to beat in the NFC, it would be hard to not see him as the team’s starter next season.
But what about Lance? There was a reason he was brought in. He was supposed to be the team’s franchise QB for the future, and don’t get me wrong, he can still be that man for the Niners. But will he have enough juice in him to beat out Purdy for the starting job next season if things continue going the way they are?
One thing is for sure, this kind of conundrum is one that many QB-needy teams would love to have, so good for you San Francisco.
