Super Bowl 58 Betting: Last-Minute Adjustments

With the kickoff to Super Bowl 58 around eight hours from now, it was a good time to update readers on the odds movement and the latest NFL lines for the big game. I mean, how could you make your best Super Bowl predictions working off yesterday’s odds, right?

The only problem with writing an article about late-line movement is there hasn’t been any. Go figure. I tried to wait it out as long as I could, but at this point, I had to pull the trigger and start writing before it was too late.

At Allegiant Stadium, the Kansas City Chiefs will play the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl 58 on Sunday. The game starts at 6:30 p.m. ET and will air on CBS. The 49ers are -125 favorites on our Super Bowl odds board, while the Chiefs are listed at +105.

Super Bowl NFL Odds Locked In

The Vegas betting odds for Super Bowl 58 have only moved slightly since opening lines were released two weeks ago. The San Francisco 49ers opened as -1.5 point favorites before the line moved slightly and settled at 2.0 points, with the Kansas City Chiefs as underdogs.

That was earlier this week, and the line has been consistent since. The NFL spread jumped from 1.5 to 2 during the week but has been steady overall.

Unsurprisingly, most of the public money has been on the Chiefs to win their second Super Bowl in a row, with Patrick Mahomes and Co. looking phenomenal during the playoffs. They have beaten two teams who are arguably better than them and done so convincingly. This is one of the reasons why the odds have been so steady. The public keeps betting more for all the money that sharps are dumping on the 49ers.

The same goes for the NFL betting total, which I haven’t seen move from 47.5 points at BetUS Sportsbook since last week. Unlike the ATS odds, the books seem to feel good about the number they opened with and aren’t fiddling with the O/U.

Still Time for Movement

Just because there has been a little movement over the last two weeks does not automatically mean that we won’t see any from now until kickoff. From where I sit, there is still a potential for the ATS bettors to get the 49ers at -2.5 or -3 if the line gets bumped by late sharp money. If that happens, look for a lot of late cash going on KC ML, including some of my own, as the odds will be better than the +105 they are now for the underdogs.

Questions Of The Day

Why do Vegas betting odds shift pregame?

When more money comes in on one side of a game than the other, sportsbooks move the odds to tempt bettors into taking action on the other side.

Will the odds shift again before kickoff?

We might see some late action on the 49ers, but I don’t expect it to move the line off where it is now.
