Super Bowl Betting Odds: Are Bills Worth the Risk?

After losing in the Divisional Round of the NFL playoffs for the second straight season, the Buffalo Bills would be lucky even to make it back to that game the way things look heading into Week 14.

Buffalo is 1-3 in its previous four games and 3-5 in their last eight. Quarterback Josh Allen has been wildly inconsistent, with a 330+ yard game one week and 170 yards another.

As a result of their poor play, the Bills’ NFL Super Bowl odds took a dive. But, even at +3500, I can’t help but feel like the Bills are overvalued. Considering they are dangerously close to missing the playoffs altogether, I think the sportsbook is off here.

Buffalo Bills Playoff Hopes Fading Fast

The Buffalo Bills opened the NFL season among the favorites to go all the way as one of the powerhouse teams in the league. They were derailed by injuries in 2022, but a healthy Bills in 2023 were going to be a force. But is their season shaping up to be a farce instead?

Despite retaining an elite core of players, the Bills continue to struggle with turnover machine Josh Allen under center and a lack of depth on the offensive line. They potentially need to go undefeated from here on out to even qualify for the playoffs.

After such a poor showing in recent weeks, Buffalo’s odds for Super Bowl LXVIII are awfully optimistic at +3500.

What is Buffalo’s Path to the Postseason?

It’s still a little early to say that there is one specific thing the Bills need to accomplish to qualify for the playoffs and make a run at the Super Bowl. However, as I see it, there are two paths the Bills have to see action after Week 18.

The first and most obvious path to the playoffs is for the Bills to win out and finish at 11-6. This will not be easy, as the Bills have the ninth-hardest remaining strength of schedule, with the Cowboys, Dolphins, and Chiefs among their opponents in the season’s final five weeks.

If the Bills do lose another game, which is very likely, they can only lose one – and it kind of has to be the NFC opponent, the Dallas Cowboys. Any loss to an AFC rival would be a disaster.

The good news is that we won’t have to wait long for an answer as to whether the Bills have what it takes to make the playoffs. Buffalo plays at Kansas City on Sunday, then hosts the Cowboys in Week 15. For me, both of those games are losses and will put this argument to bed, along with the Bills’ window to win a Super Bowl in their current configuration.
