Super Bowl Halftime Shows – These are my most memorable

Forget Super Bowl predictions for a moment and let’s talk halftime shows.

With over one million viewers tuning in worldwide, the Super Bowl Pepsi Halftime Show is considered one of––if not the biggest––stages for artists to perform on.

They get 15 minutes of a live show and if it’s good enough… it lives on for-ev-er through social media. If it’s not, well then it gets brutally trashed and memed to death until you’re forgotten.

Looking back through the years, there have been a handful of halftime shows that have been engraved into my memory and kept me from another round of the buffet line during the 15-minute break.

Let’s take a look.

Let’s check the latest NFL news, stats, injury reports, and NFL lines. We’ve got plenty of Vegas NFL picks for NFL Super Bowl Games.

1. Shakira and Jennifer Lopez (2020)

My hips are not lying when I say that I still play this iconic performance on YouTube and do a hard 14 minute and 20 second workout while watching it. Talk about GIRL power dominating during a so-called “man’s game.”

I am ALL here for women coming together and supporting one another. Not to mention it being two insanely talented and gorgeous latinas getting a chance to steal the spotlight.

Unfortunately, I will never be able to dance like either of them, but it was fun to watch and imagine myself dancing like they do. And my boyfriend––naturally—was entranced as well. A win-win performance for both gender parties.

2. Beyoncé (2013)

I know, I know, how DARE I put queen B anywhere but No. 1 on here.

To be fair, it’s really hard to rank them but it’s also hard to compete with Shakira and J-Lo sharing the same stage.

ESPN’s (obnoxious) host Stephen A. Smith would probably come at me if he ever read this after he publicly shamed Rihanna for not being Beyoncé.

Smith recently appeared on Sherri, where he made it clear which Super Bowl halftime show was his favorite….

“I don’t want to say I’m not excited,” he said. “She’s fantastic. That’s not where I’m going with this. She’s a lot of things. She’s spectacular. And congratulations on new mama hood. There’s one thing she’s not. She ain’t Beyoncé.”

When Beyoncé performs, she doesn’t give 100%… she gives 150%. Her 2016 halftime performance was another successfully executed girl-power show. From her intro of “Who Runs the World” (girls) to her exit song choice of “Halo.” Her vocals and energy were perfect and I am jealous of those who saw this one live in person.

So, yeah, Rihanna does have some competition but I have a lot of faith in someone just as talented as any artist who has stepped foot on the Super Bowl halftime show’s stage.

3. Madonna (2012)

Yes, DUH Madonna played at the Super Bowl. Madonna gets to do whatever she wants because she is Madonna.

She was 54 years old when she performed at XLVI but looked half her age, which is probably why my brother who was in college at the time called my dad to tell him he had a wet dream about Madonna following this one. Honestly, I don’t blame him. But aside from her gladiator entrance on the throne, that’s what makes this one so memorable to me.

And the fact that they don’t make halftime shows like this one anymore.

PURRRRRPLE RAAAAAAAAAAIN.

I was really young during this Super Bowl halftime show, in fact, I was only 11.

But I can still see (and hear) my dad and his buddies, a few (several) beers deep––dancing and singing Purple Rain at the top of their lungs.

5. Lady Gaga (2017)

Lady Gaga is one of those artists that you don’t necessarily have to like her music but you know damn well that she’s going to put on a good show.

For instance, Gaga went from singing “God Bless America” on top of the football dome’s rooftop to gliding down to the stage into singing “Poker Face.” She also made more than three costume changes in under 15 minutes! A true performer.
