Welcome to The Contrarian: Against All Odds, edition 4.0. This week I’m projecting three home dogs to buck the NFL odds, and win you some money against the spread. The underdogs we’ve placed under the microscope in Week 4 have a combined Super Bowl Odds moneyline of +28300.
The favorites they’re facing are almost seven times more likely to win the SB this season, rating at +4125 total. It’ll be a Dog Day Afternoon for Chicago, Detroit, and Washington on Sunday, though. Make certain your betting slips are situated, but first, have a look at our ATS NFL betting picks.
Colts at Bears
Sunday, at 1 p.m. ET on CBS

Moneyline:Chicago Bears +115
Point Spread: Chicago Bears +2 ½ (-110)
The Chicago Bears get no respect. Da Bears fought to grind out three magical wins to start the season and still find themselves out of favor. Featured in my previous contrarian installment vs the Atlanta Falcons in Week 3, Chicago came through for a payout.
With new lucky charm Nick Foles starting at quarterback, the Bears will keep the magic alive for another week. Our sportsbook lists Chicago as 2½ -point underdogs at home vs Indy, in what should prove to be a nasty bit of trench warfare.
The Indianapolis Colts have the No. 1 defense. The Indianapolis D has held the three QBs it has faced to under 173 passing yards. Foles will be dinking and dunking, picking his spots. Mixing a ground-and-pound gameplan with the occasional long-ball to WR Allen Robinson. Robinson exploded for 123 yards on 10 catches, scoring his first TD of the season vs Atlanta. This bodes well for Chicago.
Colts’ QB Philip Rivers has been unspectacular but has been a decent game manager. Expect defensive force Khalil Mack to be a dark cloud in Rivers’ skies all game long. In a tense defensive struggle, look for at least one touchdown to be scored by Chicago.
The Bears are 5-0 against the spread over the last five times they were designated underdogs of three points or less. Chicago is also 4-1 ATS during Week 4 over the last five seasons. Meanwhile, the Colts are 0-3-1 ATS in their last four road games and 2-6 ATS in their last eight as road favorites. This Chicago team has shown that they know how to win games in 2020. Giving them 2 ½ points is gravy.

Saints at Lions
Sunday at 1 p.m. ET on FOX
Underdog Betting Vitals
Moneyline: Detroit Lions +180
Point Spread: Detroit Lions +4 ½ (-110)
The New Orleans Saints have struggled to win shootouts without WR Michael Thomas. Thomas has gotten some limited practice time in, but is out for Week 4’s matchup with the Detroit Lions. The Lions have a scrappy defense and will work to force Brees into making mistakes.
The Saints’ defense is suspect, and Matt Stafford has a full spectrum of offensive weapons. Stafford’s favorite target, WR Kenny Golladay, returned in a Week 3 victory over the Arizona Cardinals. Golladay reeled in six passes for 57 yards and a touchdown and is ready for more against the Saints.
We’re finding out that New Orleans isn’t quite as good as advertised, and this feisty Detroit team will keep it close. Call the cops, because there’s gonna be another shootout in the Motor City! However, after all the smoke clears, this game will likely be decided by a field goal.

Ravens at Football Team
Sunday at 1 p.m. ET on CBS
Underdog Betting Vitals
Moneyline: Washington Football Team +650
Point Spread: Washington Football Team +14 (-115)
Look, I’m not suggesting that Washington will beat the Baltimore Ravens. Let’s get that straight What I am suggesting, is that the Ravens got sent for a loop when the Chiefs dominated them in Week 3. There are after-effects from that sort of trauma.
Expect the Ravens to play in a bit of a hangover haze in Washington. The Football Team has a ferocious defense — although No. 2 overall pick Chase Young won’t play — the type that can make you pay for mistakes. Washington is playing with an obvious chip on their shoulder, and why wouldn’t they?
Who the heck calls themselves the Football Team in this day and age?! Is no one in charge of creative development over there?? Anyway, the Ravens have shown that they are quite human, and the Football Team is going to make Baltimore fight for a win. Spotting any Football Team 14 points is a risky betting proposition. Washington will put on a show for all of their virtual fans who are “in attendance”, and perform with dignity.
