This means the Jets may be in the market for both a new quarterback and a head coach. Whether it is this offseason or down the road, it is hard to imagine the A-Rod era ends in anything other than disappointment.

It’s time for the J-E-T-S to turn the page. Here’s what you need to know about the Jets this offseason.

3 Things to Know About the Jets in 2025

1. Will Aaron Rodgers Retire This Offseason?

Rodgers sure sounds like a quarterback heading toward retirement, per NFL news. Remember, this is a quarterback that watched Brett Favre fake retire about 17 times.

So, anything is possible. As things stand now, the Jets are slated to have a $23.5 million cap hit with Rodgers on the roster. New York would take a dead cap hit of $49 million by releasing the star, per Spotrac.

The best thing that could happen for the Jets is Rodgers moving on this offseason. Things could get awkward if Rodgers wants to return for 2025.

I know I can still do the things that I need to do to be successful. It just comes down to the desire on [the Jets’] side,” Rodgers said, per Yahoo Sports. “Ultimately my desire after I kind of take some time mentally and physically to rest and relax.”

Aaron Rodgers being the Jets QB1 in 2025 feels like New York would be a major fade in the NFL betting lines next season.

2. Jets Face Quarterback Dilemma With No. 7 Pick

Rodgers retiring does not solve much other than allowing New York to start a new chapter. The New York Jets hold the No. 7 pick in the NFL Draft, meaning quarterbacks Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders are expected to be off the board by the time the team is on the clock.

One potential pathway is for the Jets to take a quarterback like Quinn Ewers later in the draft to sit behind Rodgers for a year. New York’s solution at quarterback may need to happen in either NFL free agency or via a trade.

3. 2025 Schedule: Jets Face Rugged Slate

The Jets being in the AFC East means the franchise will face the Bills two times next season. Other challenging matchups in 2025 include games against the Cowboys, Bucs, Ravens, Broncos, Bengals and Steelers. Four of those teams made the postseason in 2024.

The Jets have some work to do this offseason to be competitive next season. New York is projected to have $17.7 million in cap space this offseason, per Spotrac. Not exactly a ton of money to emerge as favorites in the NFL futures odds.
