Kareem Hunt is in a prime position to thrive against a depleted New Orleans Saints defense, while Rico Dowdle faces a tough road against a Steelers unit known for locking down opposing rushers.

Whether you’re looking for a strong bet or someone to fade against the NFL odds, these two picks offer insight into how Week 5 could unfold.

2 Top RB Prop Bets for Week 5

1. Bet on Kareem Hunt, RB, Kansas City Chiefs

Kareem Hunt is in prime position to deliver a big performance in Week 5 against the New Orleans Saints. After leading Kansas City’s backfield with 16 touches in Week 4, Hunt is poised for an even larger role due to injuries plaguing the Chiefs’ offense.

With NFL news that Rashee Rice is out indefinitely and Isiah Pacheco will be sidelined for at least four more weeks, Hunt will likely see more involvement in the running and passing game.

Hunt averaged an impressive 5.0 yards per carry, finishing with 69 rushing yards on 14 carries and adding 16 yards through the air on two receptions. Even though he played only 45% of the snaps, his efficiency and versatility make him the perfect candidate to take on a heavier workload, especially after Carson Steele’s dismal performance and early fumble.

Given Kansas City Chiefs’s explosive offense and the trust Andy Reid is showing in his veteran back, Hunt is a strong bet online to run all over the Saints in Week 5. Expect him to capitalize on the opportunity, especially with the Chiefs leaning heavily on their ground game in the absence of key receivers.

2. Fade Rico Dowdle, RB, Dallas Cowboys

Fading Rico Dowdle in Week 5 is a top NFL prediction, especially against a Pittsburgh Steelers defense that has been excellent at shutting down opposing running backs all season. While Dowdle has taken over as the RB1 for the Cowboys, his production hasn’t been impressive. He’s averaging just 3.9 yards per carry through four weeks and hasn’t truly broken out despite playing at least 43% of offensive snaps in every game.

Though he’s seeing an increased role due to Ezekiel Elliott’s decline, Dowdle’s 45% snap share and fewer than 11 touches per game aren’t enough to inspire confidence in such a tough matchup. The Steelers, even while giving up some yards to Jonathan Taylor in Week 4, have been solid against the run overall. Dowdle, who isn’t on Taylor’s level, will likely struggle to find consistent success against Pittsburgh’s defensive front.

While Dowdle’s touchdown last week boosted his numbers, relying on him for a repeat performance is risky. If you’re considering betting on his output, Week 5 is the perfect time to fade him.
