Weekend Wrap-Up: Eagles Fly to SB 59 Win, Jets-Rodgers Breakup, Du Plessis Wins Again

Fly, Eagles Fly! Philly Is Super Bowl Champions!

What better way to start this weekend’s sports wrap-up than talking about the biggest NFL news right now?

Following a 40-22 thrashing against the Kansas City Chiefs, Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley, and the Philadelphia Eagles were crowned Super Bowl LIX champions last night in New Orleans!

With a performance that can only be deemed as dominant from beginning to end, the Eagles, who came into the game as NFL betting odds underdogs, put on a clinic on how to take Patrick Mahomes and company down and keep them there, suffocating the two-time defending SB champions until there was nothing left.

Of course, Philly fans took no time in hitting the town and tearing it up. Considering this is the team’s second Super Bowl win, manic celebrations were bound to happen.

Until next season, live it up Eagles fans, you deserve it!

Tell Everyone Jalen, I’m H-I-M!

Staying on Super Bowl LIX for a second, Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia’s star QB showed everyone yesterday that when it comes to the conversation of who the most lethal dual-threat passer in the league is, it starts and ends with him.

Sorry Ravens fans, but even if Lamar Jackson’s stats speak volumes, I’m all about championships and rings, not over-the-top performances that end up leading to nothing.

With a solid 221 passing and 72 rushing yard performance which included two passing TDs and another rushing with the tush push house specialty, Hurts left no doubts whatsoever that last night in NOLA there was only one passer who should be up to play.

The other one was Kenny Pickett. And oh yeah, that KC kid Mahomes.

Word Around Town Is Jets Don’t Want Rodgers No More

Eighteen. That’s the number of NFL games that Aaron Rodgers started with the New York Jets in his two seasons with the team.

Now, why would that stat be a thing? According to various news outlets, last week, while everybody was focusing on everything SB-related, the Jets apparently let Rodgers know they would not be bringing him back next season.

Of course, news of Rodgers being given the cold shoulder by New York took no time in hitting headlines with opinions flying left and right on whether the Jets are making the right move or not.

Also, if you thought for a second, this news wouldn’t reach Jets players, are you living under a rock or something?

Speaking as a die-hard Jets fan here, I’m all about Rodgers coming back for one more season, and I know I’m not alone in this.

Williams Trade to LA Nixed

Remember how everyone thought the LA Lakers needed a center desperately? Do you also remember how the Lakers, set on finding a center to take over the spot Anthony Davis left following the Luka to LA deal, found their new big man in Mark Williams?

How about how NBA rumors become reality when the Lakers traded rookie Dalton Knecht, alongside Cam Reddish, and a couple of draft picks, including a 2031 unprotected first-rounder for Williams?

Well, that didn’t last long, as Williams was shipped back to Charlotte after failing LA’s physical exams, leaving the Lakers without somebody to fill AD’s void and the Hornets welcoming back their big man.

Following Williams’ return to the Hornets, the team was quick to dish out a statement “celebrating” his return to the team.

Awkward much?

Du Plessis Dominates at UFC 312

MMA fans had quite a weekend with the UFC putting on quite the show in Australia. With a main card stacked to the brim, with two back-to-back title fights co-managing the event, in the last bout of the evening middleweight champion Dricus Du Plessis gave former champion and challenger Sean Strickland a literal “beat the snot out of him” pounding.

The question now is, with Strickland out of the equation, who’s next to challenge Dricus for the middleweight gold?

Not to be outdone, in the women’s strawweight division, champion Weili Zhang once again showed that when it comes to dominating her division and being touted as the best pound-for-pound female fighter in the world it’s her and then everybody else.

UFC 313 can’t come soon enough.

One More Lap Around the Block

What? Another Super Bowl LIX reference? Damn right, another one. I could go on for days about Kendrick Lamar’s halftime show performance, but considering this is a sports wrap-up, how about female tennis GOAT Serena Williams crip walking like nobody’s business?

Last but not least, if you’re a soccer fan and have been keeping up with the Spanish La Liga tournament odds, the race for the top is as hot as ever following a 1-1 draw between Real Madrid and Atletico de Madrid, currently first and second place squads, and Barcelona, #3 beating Sevilla 4-1, leaving the race for the top spot at a two-point margin.

Until next week, have a great one.
