What The Eagles Need: Defense Would Be a Nice Start
Say what you want about the Philadelphia Eagles, but if there’s one thing you’ll never see any NFL news site or football expert criticize, it’s the team’s offense. Led by the likes of Jalen Hurts, A.J. Brown, and DeVonta Smith, Philly knows how to put points on the board.
Sadly, it was their defense that couldn’t come up clutch when it was needed most, especially in the team’s wild-card round loss against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

With head coach Nick Sirianni and general manager Howie Roseman putting the team through a pivotal coaching staff cleansing, getting rid of the team’s offensive and defensive coordinators in favor of Kellen Moore and Vic Fangio, it’s clear that the team’s mission for next season is winning at all cost.
Understanding that football is a sport where offenses win games, but defenses win championships, it’s also clear that if Philadelphia wants to once again run the NFL betting favoritism rankings, boosting the defensive line and secondary will be of the utmost importance.
So what should Philadelphia’s plans be this offseason if title contention is to be in the plans once again?
Here’s a look at some NFL odds to consider!
Draft: Time For Depth in Cornerback, Edge and Linebacker Rooms
A big part of Philadelphia’s demise last season was because of its secondary being the team’s weakest link. And it’s not like they didn’t have the manpower to have a stout unit. Injuries and overall lack of talent put Darius Slay and James Bradberry, the team’s starting cornerbacks in the spotlight as two of the squad’s frailest players.
If the Eagles wish to once again be Super Bowl favorites, like they were at one point last season, they need to get serious about adding true depth at CB.
If Philadelphia is lucky enough to find a strong CB prospect when its time to pick is up in the draft, then the Eagles seriously need to make it happen.
While some of the draft’s top corners will probably be gone, a guy like Ohio State’s Denzel Burke could end up fitting perfectly in Philly’s plans.

Burke has proven he can play multiple coverages, especially excelling in man to man coverage, and his tackling skills put him up there as one of the best positional prospects.
After taking care of the CB position, Philadelphia needs to continue adding more depth to the rest of its defense, targeting edge rushers, linebackers, and safety. With eight more picks after its first rounder, the team should have no issue filling up on its needs, maybe even including a running back and a wide receiver to groom for the future.
Free Agency: Knock on Connor Williams’ Door, He’ll Surely Answer
It’s time to address the elephant in the room. While there have been a plethora of NFL rumors going around regarding Jason Kelce retiring, as well as Fletcher Cox, nothing has been made official yet.
Still, it wouldn’t hurt one bit if Philadelphia decided to get ahead of any future surprises and try to bring in a center to try and replace Kelce if he decides to walk.
For example, Miami’s Connor Williams would be a perfect fit for the team, even if Moore decides to slide Landon Dickerson or Cam Jurgens to center.
Williams has proven he can succeed at playing guard as well, which comes to show that if versatility is something the team could want, he is the man for the job.
Besides that, the Eagles need to bring back RB D’Andre Swift. While not used to his max potential, Swift still finished the season as the fifth-best rusher in the league in yards with 1,049.
Philadelphia can’t trust that Hurts and his receiver corps will take care of all offensive doings, so bringing back Swift instead of letting him leave in free agency should be key.

Outlook: Want To Bet? Pick Eagles Making a Strong Comeback
I’d like to think of next season as Philadelphia’s version of a “changing of the guard.” There are new offensive and defensive coordinators. This could also end up being the first time we see the Eagles without players like Kelce and Cox, team legends, in quite some time.
Still, Philadelphia should be good to go next year, that is as long as Roseman is able to make sure all of the team’s needs are met, something he’s usually very good at.
With Hurts and company ready to tear through the competition to show their prior favoritism wasn’t a shtick, if I were to put my money on an NFL pick to back for 2024, I would take the Eagles to go for a deep postseason run.
