Why Cardinals’ Schedule Makes Playoffs a Long Shot Bet

The Arizona Cardinals are looking at a season filled with reality checks. With +8000 betting odds to win the Super Bowl, analysts aren’t exactly penciling them into the playoffs. Buckle up, Cardinals fans, because a brutal schedule awaits, and it could be a recipe for a rough ride in 2024-25.

Brutal Road Test: Will the Cardinals Win Any Road Games?

If you’re hoping to see the Cardinals win games, it might be best to watch them when they play at home. Their road schedule is daunting, even with Kyler Murray back in the quarterback picture, the team as a whole isn’t good enough to beat some of the best teams in the NFL, and they face many of them away from home.

The road test kicks off immediately against the Buffalo Bills in Week 1. Playing Buffalo in the opening week could be the best time to play them, but Arizona is still a large +7 underdog to steal a win.

Their next road games feature the San Francisco 49ers in Week 5 and the Green Bay Packers in Week 6. Facing the 49ers on the road is one of the toughest games, and heading to Wisconsin to face the Packers won’t be any easier.

I feel a bit sorry for the Cardinals. Their road schedule has done them dirty, but their expectations were low regardless.

They have five more road games following the Packers, including against the Dolphins, Seahawks, Vikings, Panthers, and Rams. They could potentially beat the Seahawks and Vikings, but their best chance comes against the Panthers, who have the worst betting line to win Super Bowl LIV.

Going 1-7 is likely, 2-6 is a good result, and no one would be surprised if the Cardinals failed to win a single game on the road after going 2-7 last season.

Home Wins: The Key to the Cardinals’ Season

If the Cardinals want any chance of making the NFL playoffs, which they’re at long odds to do, they must post a good home record. They have some winnable games on the schedule, but it all comes down to confidence and how they play early in the year.

If they lose early, I can’t see their confidence levels rising high enough to beat teams like the Chargers and Jets, who they face at home in the middle stages of the season.

They face the Rams, Lions, and Commanders at home in the first four weeks. Playing three of their first four games at home is a bonus, and they could fire up against teams like Washington, which is also expected to struggle.

There is a chance of beating the Jets, Chicago, and New England at home, so I expect them to finish the year with around 4-5 wins.

That’s the best-case scenario for the Cardinals, who are praising rookie WR Marvin Harrison Jr. as their savior.

When you got a guy out there that’s capable of winning 1-on-1s,” Murray said. “Obviously, he’s got to go do it. He knows that. We all know it. But as far as manipulating coverage and stuff like that, you got a guy out there that can do that … even if he’s not open, he’s open.

I’m not sure if a rookie wide receiver can see the Cardinals win in 2024, but at least there’s some excitement in camp. However, my best pick is on the Cardinals to miss the playoffs at -400 betting odds.
