Why Commanders’ Schedule Won’t Save Them in 2024

The Washington Commanders don’t have the hardest schedule in 2024, at least in our opinion. NFL Super Bowl odds have them at +12500 to win, which is a fair line, but it won’t be their schedule holding them back. However, many games are NFL East rivalry matchups, which will define their year.

Let’s analyze the Commanders’ 2024 schedule.

Can Commanders Overcome Tough Schedule Start?

The Commanders play three of their first four games on the road, which could spell trouble for the struggling franchise. Playing at home could have given them the boost they needed, but after getting the Buccaneers, Bengals, and Cardinals on the road, things could get difficult.

Their only home game in the first four weeks comes against the New York Giants, a must-win NFC East contest.

They could fancy their chances of beating the Cardinals in Week 4. The Cardinals aren’t the greatest team going around, but it will all depend on how well Jayden Daniels starts. Rookie quarterbacks can get eaten alive in the NFL, but Daniels was impressive for LSU. He’s dynamic with his arm, which could be enough for the Commanders to nab a couple of early wins.

The ball placement, the arm talent he has — he has the ability to make every throw,” third-round pick Ben Sinnott said. “You see it all over the film, too. He can run, he can extend plays, create explosives with his legs, throw it 80 yards downfield and create a huge play in the passing game.”

Can Commanders Capitalize on Winnable Home Stretch?

The Commanders have some winnable games in the middle stages. Starting Week 5, they face the Browns, Panthers, and Bears at home.

The Browns won’t be an easy win, but they’re good enough to hold down the fort at home. Beating the Panthers and Bears shouldn’t be too difficult, so it could see the Commanders make ground in their division.

Following the game against the Bears, they play the Giants on the road, which is another winnable game. It’s also another division game, and they could be battling with the Giants for a playoff spot. Going 3-1 during the middle stages could see them make a playoff push.

Commanders’ Playoff Hopes Tested in Final Weeks

The Commanders could be in a good position before facing the Philadephia Eagles on Nov. 14. The Thursday Night football game kicks off an awful stretch to close out the season, including two games against the Eagles and Dallas Cowboys.

We see them going 0-4 against those teams, making their games against the Titans, Saints, and Falcons even more important.

Going 3-4 during the final stretch wouldn’t be too bad considering the opposition, but that means they need to be perfect against some solid teams.

Improvement is expected from the Falcons, and the Titans and Saints are tough to beat. They play Tennessee and Atlanta at home, so if they can make Commanders Field a fortress, an NFL playoff spot is up for grabs.

However, having a better record than the Eagles and Cowboys will be tough, and that’s why the sportsbook has the Commanders at massive odds to win the Super Bowl.
